The School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach ARI 231 Drawing I Observation, a three credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2024. There are two open sections.

The focus of this course is to learn to see and allow the experience to develop into drawing. Drawing is an experience of discovering and connecting with the world. This course is focused on guiding students to learn to see and introduces them to a range of approaches relevant to the act of direct observation. Students will acquire specific manual and thinking skills essential to the understanding of the translation of form and space to the two-dimensional surface.

Qualifications

MFA preferred or equivalent.

Job Specific Qualifications

Ability to teach beginning level drawing to students at all skill levels.

Responsibilities

Teach class during assigned day and times. Maintain regular grading. Prep for class teaching. Maintain office hours. Teach through demos. Teach about materials & techniques. Studio set up.

In addition:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.

  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

  • Meeting all designated class periods.

  • If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.

  • You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
