The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach AMC 529 Service Playing, a 1-2 credit hour course, during the Fall semester 2024.

Instruct students on hymn and service music playing, psalm and chant accompaniment, anthem accompaniment, conducting from the console, registration practice, worship planning, and tips for finding local employment or substitute work as a church musician.

Qualifications

Relevant academic credentials and experience including: A minimum of a doctoral degree in music or equivalent experience preferred. Experience teaching organ or organ classes at the collegiate level. Professional credentials in field of sacred music.

Job Specific Qualifications

The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, demonstrated pedagogical ability, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students. Preference will be given to applicants who could potentially fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.

Responsibilities

Being present and instructing weekly classes during the fall semester on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:20 AM in Hendricks Chapel.

In addition:

  • Follow and update an extant syllabus.

  • Prepare student assignments.

  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

  • Meeting all designated class periods.

  • If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.

  • You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
