Overview

Receive and process non-emergency administrative phone calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, security or other services. Gather essential information from callers, interpret caller's needs, then determine and send the appropriate response. Must be organized, adept at multi-tasking, level-headed, and trustworthy. This office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Expected work hours will include Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays Day/Swing/Grave Shifts. Part-Time Hours up to 28 per week. No Benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Receive calls from the University departments as well as the public requesting police, fire, medical, facilities, security or other services. Determine the nature and location of the incident: determine priorities, and dispatch units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.

  • Dispatch facilities, maintenance and other university personnel to incidents that require immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the campus.

  • Closely monitor safety systems and alarms, such as fire detection, intrusion detection, access control, and security cameras.

  • Maintains contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of units

  • Answers non-emergency calls for assistance.

  • Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.

  • Monitor several public safety radio frequencies.

  • Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, computer aided dispatch (CAD), and other computer systems/programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Applicant must pass criminal background check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of communication equipment and campus facilities

  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software application

  • Skill in handling complaints and problems

  • Ability to organize information and prioritize tasks effectively

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, electronically and in writing

  • Ability to maintain control and composure in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to make decisions when administrators are not present

  • Ability to focus on excellent customer service to inner department, the public, and Utah State University students and staff.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
