Work with the entire Distibution department management team to provide fair and consistent leadership to our drivers. Identify and implement effective and timely solutions to transportation and distribution routing and delivery challenges. Must be consistent and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Assure the mission and philosophy of the department is supported throughout the positions area of responsibility.
Determine daily work schedules for professional drivers in a manner that ensures a safe and efficient operation, a high level of customer service and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Provides daily work direction to professional drivers, which may include changes in load assignments, special delivery or pick-up instructions that are necessary to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Communicates customer start/stop information directly to drivers in a timely fashion, always supplying directions and updating correct route sequence information in database.
Recommends best dispatch and routing practices that will achieve service objectives at the lowest possible costs.
Ensure that delivery tickets for all routes are always sequenced in correct delivery order to support driver's efforts and ensure trouble free deliveries when a back up does the route.
Maintains daily activity assignments of tractors, trailers and drivers.
Maintains up-to-date copies of routes in the dispatch office and/or on a computer program.
Maintains substitute drivers list to provide drivers for absent drivers.
Collects and maintains trip information to provide mileage information for reports to DOT.
Inform supervisor of driver training needs and performance concerns.
Works directly with Shop and Loading Supervisors to coordinate truck/trailer availability.
Collects DVIR and Driver Logs (as appropriate) from each driver each day and communicates repair needs to shop, as appropriate.
Takes proper information and notifies appropriate personnel in accident situations.
Prepares and distributes Daily Operational Reports.
Communicates fully with supervisors, subordinates and customers (internal and external) to promote and improve all transportation department functions.
Communicate and discuss empty case recovery with all delivery drivers.
Perform additional duties to meet department and company goals.
Extensive knowledge of distribution area. Three or more (3+) years dispatch dairy or delivery.
