JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Dean's Office in the College of the Liberal Arts is seeking an Part Time Data Analyst to support the College's growing need for student success analytics. Reporting to the Associate Director of Institutional Research and Planning, the Analyst will leverage University data to support leadership in the College's Office of Undergraduate Studies, including the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, as well as the directors of the Chaiken Center for Student Success, Academic Advising, the Career Enrichment Network, and the Office of Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship. Working collaboratively within and across these units, this position will:

  • assist in the execution of institutional research projects for the College to achieve its critical mission of supporting student success
  • develop metrics, reports, and dashboards on student success and engagement with College resources that have complex requirements and diverse stakeholders
  • fulfill requests about student data using a variety of sources available throughout the University (and be able to make meaningful connections across the data sources)
  • utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies where appropriate, summarize and interpret findings in order to support College decision-making for student success programs and initiatives
  • present complex ideas, techniques, and findings clearly and effectively in verbal and written communications
  • participate in the College's Data Working Group and represent the College on University data committees, as needed
  • support other data requests and projects for the College, as needed

Candidates should have basic statistical skills and experience cleaning and managing large datasets. Experience with database and data analysis tools such as R, SAS, and/or SQL Management Studio is strongly preferred. Additionally, experience with data visualization tools in Excel, and/or Microsoft Power BI, is preferred. Familiarity with University data systems, such as iTwo, LionPATH, Cavas, Starfish, and WorkDay, is an asset.

Other qualifications include: strong ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment; the ability to multitask on a number of projects, making informed judgments about project priorities; meeting established deadlines; accuracy and attention to detail; strong organizational and time management skills; interpersonal and communication skills.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher. The ideal candidate will have a background in education and data analysis. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
