Job Description Summary:

Under immediate direction, performs a variety of tasks that focus on providing learning opportunities and exposure to a wide range of activities. Duties will include taking notes from recordings of past meetings held by the Roundtable on Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM in order to help prepare materials and resources for use by faculty and administrators working on college campuses who wish to delve further into issues addressed by the Roundtable, such as student success, professional learning by faculty, and workforce preparation. Additional duties will involve participation in and support of the summer 2024 meetings of the Roundtable, its Executive Committee, and its work groups.

This job is intended for college students with an interest in science, engineering, medicine, or business operations to increase their knowledge and obtain on the job training and experience. Under direct supervision or clearly defined procedures, performs a variety of clerical and research duties and accomplishes routine tasks.

This is a part-time, temporary position.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1.Performs administrative tasks such as word processing and scheduling meetings. Creates, maintains, and updates records, databases, and files.

2.Assists with preparations for meetings, including compiling agenda books and briefing materials and providing administrative support for meetings. Registers attendees.

3.Performs subject-oriented literature searches. Gathers references.

May participate in other research efforts including collection, assembly, and tabulation of data and summarizing literature. May assist in analyzing basic research results.

4.Proofreads and copyedits documents.

5.Attends meetings, training classes, and workshops.

6.Undertakes one or more short-term projects designed to assist with or to enhance ongoing study projects.

7.May participate in updating unit web pages and other communications/media activities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to solve problems with supervisory consultation or by following procedures. Ability to prioritize work and the flexibility to change directions as the job dictates. Ability to work successfully in a team environment.

Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective communication. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge. Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree college or university program.

Minimum Experience: None.

Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: None.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to manager/supervisor. Supervisor is available to organize work, set objectives, and to assist in problem resolution.

Compensation: The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. The compensation for this position is $18.00 per hour.

Work Environment: Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 40%, with occasional travel between National Academies' facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.
