Class Summary

The Educational Leader is responsible for program development, preparation, and facilitation of educational enrichment opportunities. Ideal candidates should have the ability to work and interact with children, caregivers, and staff in a professional and positive manner. Candidate must be willing to work in a multitude of settings and adapt programming to provide a safe and engaging learning experience for all participants.

The ideal candidate must be available to work mornings, afternoons, and weekends, as needed, to ensure successful program representation at events. The candidate must be able to manage multiple projects, organize priorities, be willing to drive a county vehicle, and have a semiflexible schedule.

Essential Duties

  • Developing and implementing developmentally appropriate, high-quality, and engaging educational enrichment experiences for children and their caregivers when applicable.

  • Orienting, monitoring, and leading children in literacy, educational enrichment, and STEAM activities.

  • Demonstrate a command of the subject(s) being taught.

  • Positively sustaining engagement of audiences as young as eight weeks to 100 years

  • Ensuring smooth transitions from one activity to another.

  • Ensuring the safety of program participants and facility operations.

  • Utilizing strong written and oral expression.

  • Assisting in educational training opportunities for diverse communities.

  • Communicating all issues and concerns with the program supervisor.

  • Participating in professional growth and professional learning activities.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year minimum of work experience in professional childcare setting, elementary/middle/secondary school education setting, afterschool setting, summer camp setting or equivalent combination.

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Ability to comprehend and align programming to Georgia Early Learning Development Standards (GELDS), Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE), and Gwinnett County Public Schools Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS)

  • Ability to infuse literacy and STEAM constructs into programming.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of educational curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom/behavior management, and research related to learning.

  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and has the interpersonal skills to collaborate and engage well with a broad spectrum of ages, cultures, and languages.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for a variety of audiences

  • Valid Georgia Driver's License

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications within 6 months

Preferred Qualifications

College level course work or certification in early childhood education/elementary/middle/secondary education or similar field is preferred.

The Community Engagement and Collaboration Division of the Gwinnett County Department of Community Services is responsible for various initiatives and programs that have a direct impact on Gwinnett residents including early learning, K-12 educational initiatives, digital learning, partner collaboration, marketing engagements, Live Healthy Gwinnett, Volunteer Gwinnett, and more. The division provides programming at multiple locations across Gwinnett County including programming using mobile means such as vehicles and traveling education kits.
