Class Summary
The Building Brains Part Time Afterschool Program Leader is responsible for orienting, monitoring, and leading children through the day-to-dayinstructional program at a Gwinnett County after school program site. In an effort to provide safe places for children and youth, to gain academic support, school readiness, enrichment activities, and child/youth development, candidates must be effective communicators with children and adults, with the ability to transition groups of children efficiently.
Site assignment may change depending on the needs of the program.
Essential Duties
Developing and implementing lesson plans
Orienting, monitoring, and leading children in various activities
Planning for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the curriculum and providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and environmental development of students
Demonstrating a command of the subject(s) being taught
Capturing student attention through active involvement
Linking lesson content to students' knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of content
Implementing rules and regulations
Ensuring smooth transitions from one activity to another
Ensuring the safety of program participants and facility operations
Defining and communicating behavior that is conducive to learning
Establishing mutual respect between teachers and students
Reporting and appropriately dealing with discipline problems, accidents, and other incidents
Communicating all issues and concerns with the site director and other appropriate staff
Participating in professional growth and professional learning activities
Utilizing standard written expression and acceptable oral expression
Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Candidate must be 16 years of age.
CPR and First Aid Certifications within 6 months.
Knowledge of techniques for integrating curriculum and effective instructional practices.
Ability to understand the teaching/learning process.
Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a variety of audiences.
An interest and desire to promote out of school learning.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of educational curriculum. development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and has the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, teachers, parents, and the community.
Demonstrates the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, telecommunications, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
College level course work in elementary education or similar field ispreferred.
Previous work experience in after care or a similar educational settingpreferred.
Valid Georgia Driver's License preferred.

The Community Engagement and Collaboration Division of the Gwinnett County Department of Community Services is responsible for various initiatives and programs that have a direct impact on Gwinnett residents including early learning, digital learning, partner collaboration, marketing engagements, Live Healthy Gwinnett, Volunteer Gwinnett, and more. The division provides programming at multiple locations across Gwinnett County including programming using mobile means such as vehicles and traveling education kits.
