Class Summary

The Building Brains Part Time Afterschool Program Site Director is responsible for orienting, monitoring, and leading children through the day-to-day operation of a Gwinnett County afterschool program site. Candidate will be the onsite lead, creating safe places for children and youth to receive academic support, school readiness, enrichment activities, and child/youth development.

Essential Duties

  • Orienting, monitoring, and leading children in various activities.

  • Developing and implementing lesson plans.

  • Leading children and staff through the day-to-dayoperation of an after-schoolprogram, including set-up and clean-up ofequipment andsupplies.

  • Supervising and leading various activities, games, and crafts for participants for both indoor and outdoor environments

  • Planning for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the curriculum and providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and environmental development ofstudent.

  • Demonstrating a command of the subject(s) being taught

  • Capturing student attention through active involvement

  • Linking lesson content to students' knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of content

  • Participating in professional growth and professional learning activities

  • Utilizing standard written expression and acceptable oral expression

  • implementing rules and regulations

  • Monitoring staff work hours and completing and submitting timesheets.

  • Ensuring the safety of program participants and facility operations

  • Ensuring all attendance and program records arecompleted.

  • Supervising program staff, interaction with parents and paperwork completion

  • Reporting and appropriately dealing with discipline problems, accidents, and other incidents

  • Communicating all issues and concerns with the immediate program supervisor

  • Participating in staff and program evaluations

  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications within 6 months.

  • Valid Georgia Driver's License.

  • Knowledge of techniques for integrating curriculum and effective instructional practices.

  • Ability to understand the teaching/learning process.

  • Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a variety of audiences.

  • An interest and desire to promote out of school learning.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of educational curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.

  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and has the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, teachers, parents, and the community.

  • Demonstrates the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, telecommunications, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College level course work in elementary education or similar field is preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

The Community Engagement and Collaboration Division of the Gwinnett County Department of Community Services is responsible for various initiatives and programs that have a direct impact on Gwinnett residents including early learning, digital learning, partner collaborations, marketing engagements, Live Healthy Gwinnett, Volunteer Gwinnett, and more. The division provides programming at multiple locations across Gwinnett County including programming using mobile means such as vehicles and traveling education kits.
