Key Duties and Responsibilities

Education, Training, & Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.

  • Hold a Georgia Teaching Certificate

  • Experience working with student behaviors.

  • Behavioral modification and crisis intervention strategies/techniques

  • Conflict resolution and youth leadership and empowerment strategies

  • Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

  • Multi-tiered Systems of Supports

  • Mindset Communication and Restraint Techniques

  • Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA

  • Understanding of HIPPA and FERPA

Responsibilities:

The district-wide Behavior Coach will work with administrative teams to do the following:

  • Assist school staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding the principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing strategies for weakening behavior, and identifying antecedents.

  • Recommend and assist in implementation of instructional and/or behavioral interventions to increase student performance; make recommendations for effective management of the learning environment and maintenance of the physical setting for instructional.

  • Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.

  • Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which "at risk" students thrive.

  • Support school staff by modeling behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.

  • Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in implementing positive behavior support in their classrooms.

  • Improve student instruction by assisting teachers with distinguishing disruptive student behaviors through modeling positive behavior supports and implementing strategies related to the target behavior.

  • Serve as a consultant to administrators to administrators, teachers, and parents.

  • Develop and assist school staff with implementing Behavior Intervention Plans as needed.

  • Communicate to the principal the status of the implementation of specified initiatives and identify any problems with the implementation of these initiatives.

  • Attend appropriate professional learning training and conferences, redelivering training and sharing information with other staff.

  • Perform classroom observations to ensure effective classroom management.

  • Perform other duties related to improving student behavior as determined by the Executive Director of Student Services.

  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.

  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.

  • Support students and staff with encouragement and by building positive relationships.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.

  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.

  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.

  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.

  • Obtain certification in mindset training

  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.

  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.

  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly in emergency situations.
