Pay Range: $29.00 - $30.00 per hour

Summary

Beged Kefet is a growing Hebrew afterschool program for K-12 grades with about 100 students. The goal of the school is to teach Hebrew, keep Israeli culture and build community. Goals are reached by teaching the fundamentals of Modern Hebrew, Israeli culture, holidays, stories, history and music and by celebrating together as a community. Beged Kefet is accredited for high school level Hebrew as a foreign language in all public schools in Silicon Valley. The accreditation is given through partnerships with Kehillah Jewish High School.

Areas of Responsibility

The Beged Kefet Head of School is responsible for the operations, supervision and educational management of the Beged Kefet Hebrew school program for children in grades K-12. Oversees all aspects of Beged Kefet language program at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center (part of Jewish Silicon Valley), including interfacing with families, managing teachers, and overseeing registration.

Responsible for the following general categories and functions, to include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for overseeing, developing and managing the calendar and curriculum for the afterschool program, including administration duties -- coordinate with parent program leadership.

  • Maintain class lists.

  • Synchronize efforts between all grade levels including middle school and high school.

  • Actively engage with constituents in the Hebrew speaking community (K-8) as well as with the foreign language accreditation community serving the 9-12 grade program.

  • Oversee and coordinate all activities in support of the teachers by setting calendars, work plans, conducting managerial tasks according to school guidelines, directing staff meetings and initiating and implementing community activities to include Shabbat and holiday events.

  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate teachers based on performance

  • Cultivate the community of Beged Kefet through development of a strong teacher and volunteer base.

  • Create and nurture volunteer committees who help with program events.

  • Manage and oversee the addition of English speaking families into the school program and integrate the correct Hebrew language curriculum

  • Handle and address parent concerns and questions promptly and appropriately; keeping program directors and executive level administration apprised.

  • Develop budgets for all program areas and manage continual budget responsibility

  • Represent Jewish Silicon Valley under the APJCC arm in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service.

  • Perform special projects and other related duties as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by management and as business dictates.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications and competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree or Equivalent in Teaching, Languages or Liberal Arts; some education experience preferred

  • 5 years' experience of educational program development and project management

  • 1-2 years' experience teaching either in a school or camp environment

  • Fluent in Hebrew and have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Israeli culture

  • Ability to gain cooperation of others and lead team members

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information clearly (both written and oral) in English

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 especially Excel , Word and PowerPoint

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and maintain long-term relationships within the local community and volunteers

  • Proven ability to prioritize a large workload

  • Ability and desire to work independently and as a team member with the community and other employees

  • Ability to work nights and weekends when needed

  • Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working in a non-profit environment

  • Experience in grant writing and reporting - highly desired

  • Ability to effectively use computer applications and technology, including database software and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Photoshop a plus.

  • Deep knowledge of the Jewish community, Jewish culture, Jewish history, and Jewish values

  • Some travel may be required

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

This position is contingent upon the completion and cleared background check of a fingerprint and life scan assessment.

Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000
