Overview

The Sustainability Coordinator will be responsible for assisting Big Sky Resort work towards its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions as outlined in our ForeverProject 2030 Master Plan. They will also develop green policies and initiatives that emphasize the proper use of environmental resources with a focus on emissions reduction and climate change advocacy. Additionally, the Sustainability Coordinator will manage projects on behalf of other departments in regards to sustainability and our 2030 Master Plan.

The Sustainability Coordinator will work alongside resort management, Operations, Marketing, Accounting, Food and Beverage, Lodging, SnowSports, Retail & Rental Departments, and our family of Boyne Resorts. This Person takes initiative to get any and all tasks completed accurately, proficiently, and in a timely manner. The coordinator is responsible for the tracking, measurement, and adjustment of Big Sky Resort's greenhouse gas calculations. All while ensuring departments are supported through changes and new implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and support/lead cross functional implementation of short- and long-term projects to reduce Big Sky Resort's carbon footprint.

  • Monitor success and opportunities of sustainability programming, ensuring the resort meets the set targets. Make adjustments as necessary.

  • Work with accounting to track energy and resource (water, fuel, refrigerants, etc.) usage and spending.

  • Track and enter energy bill data and keep up-to-date records.

  • Assist with leading the Big Sky Resort ForeverProject Team.

  • Implement projects that reduce overall emissions by collaborating with and assisting other departments.

  • Collect data on initiatives to apply/maintain NSAA Sustainable Slopes Badges.

  • Collect information and provide an annual report to the NSAA Climate Challenge. This includes total emissions, emissions reduction projects completed, and climate advocacy accomplishments.

  • Be the point person for sustainability questions, comments, or concerns, from Team Members or guests.

  • Apply for grants from the government and organizations to fund sustainability projects.

  • Attend weekly meetings with the other Boyne Sustainability Leads to discuss ongoing efforts at each resort and share ideas and challenges.

  • Acquire proposals, quotes, and additional resources for sustainability related projects.

  • Collaborate with community, state, and regional partners such as Big Sky Sustainability Network Organization, Gallatin River Task Force, Bozeman Citizen's Climate Lobby, ClimateSmart Montana, Yellowstone Teton Clean Cities Coalition, etc.

  • Report to Big Sky Resort Sustainability Specialist.

Qualifications

  • Background in Environmental studies, sustainability, or a similar field

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Experience with Project Management

  • Ability to accurately record and analyze large sets of data
