Job Summary/Basic Function

The Part-Time Assistant Defensive Football Coach assists the Head Football Coach with the daily operations of conducting a successful Football program, including the monitoring, and ensuring the academic success of the student-athletes and in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the team's program.

Contract renewed on annual basis.

Required Qualifications

  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience at the high school or college level.

  • Knowledge of recruiting prospective student-athletes.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting student-athlete welfare and academic success.

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate student-athletes.

  • Ability to work with students of diverse cultures, racial and ethnic groups.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Evidence of working effectively with student-athletes of diverse races and cultures.

  • Evidence of complying fully with association and conference regulations.

  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Successful interview.

  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Knowledge of the PSAC and Division II football.

  • Experience recruiting in PA region and Mid-Atlantic region.

  • Experience coaching a defensive skill position at the college level.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coach a position group and all areas associated with the players in that group.

  • Advise student-athletes and staff of applicable intercollegiate athletic rules, regulations, and University policies and ensure compliance of such regulations.

  • Develop and conduct pre-season, in-season and off-season training and conditioning programs for the team.

  • Assists in the development of game plans.

  • Recruit student-athletes.

  • Review practice and game video with coaches and players. Grade player performance.

  • Inform student-athletes of academic and other matters pertaining to their enrollment and educational progress.

  • Plan and direct athletic skill development for student-athletes.

  • Ensure appropriate safety measures are observed when conducting team activities.

  • Cooperate with the University physicians and Athletic Trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.

  • Coordinate all activities in preparation for scheduled competition.

  • Attend all team practices and home and away contests.

  • Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement team, athletic department, and University measures to support their academic performance.

  • Assume responsibility to student-athlete compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

  • Assist the Head Coach and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in resolving cases where a student-athlete violates an applicable regulation.

  • Work with alumni student groups University administration and community groups to seek support for the team.

  • Ensure student-athletes participation in NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills programs.

  • Assist the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in fund-raising activities in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements for non-faculty coaches.

  • Submit monthly work schedules to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and comply with Schedule once approved.

  • Attend appropriate Athletic departmental staff meetings.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Extensive writing skills (prepare and organize complex documents)

  • Extensive verbal communication skills (provide information and assistance regularly).

  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to drive university vehicles.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
