Position description
SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION/UNIT
Located in the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies, Center X is a community of educators working to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Director of the Design-Based Learning Project (DBL) in Center X oversees all operations of the project. The overarching duties of the Director of Design-based Learning Programs are predominately administrative in nature, although the administration may include participation in, as well as, the overseeing of programs involving teaching, research, and/or academically based public service. The Director of DBL Programs designs, administers and evaluates long and short-term professional development programs that align with the goals and vision of Center X.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Major domains of responsibility include: fund development via contracts (sales & service) and grant writing; administering and designing programs that meet teacher, school district, and university needs, and align to state and national standards; and providing direct supervision of the DBL team; and actively participating in the UCLA Teacher Education Program.
Major responsibilities associated with project contracts & grants include grant project management, developing scopes of work into hierarchies of sub-projects, establishing timelines, milestones, and project logic models, analyzing dependencies and critical path, securing and allocating essential human resources, monitoring and reporting on deliverables, identifying and adapting to unanticipated issues, ensure effective intra-project communication to partners, and establish an organizational structure with clear reporting lines. Under the general direction of the Center X Executive Director, the Director of Design-Based Learning Programs is responsible for high level leadership and day-to-day project oversight to ensure all DBL Programs contract, grant, and projects are aligned with the mission, guiding principles, and goals of Center X and its and funding agencies; and that objectives are met on time and on budget. Incumbent serves as a critical thought partner and instructor for the UCLA Teacher Education Program, specifically in regards to curriculum, pedagogy, and innovations in elementary and secondary project-based education. Design, plan, and implement programs for novice and experienced K-12 teachers when needed. Establish and maintain a liaison with local, county, and state departments of educations.
Assignments are carried out under the broad organizational goals and objectives of Center X. Guidance is offered by the Executive Director and colleagues as required. Campus guidelines relating to budgetary control and grant administration are followed. Progress and performance are under annual review by the Executive Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive experience in educational leadership and program implementation and management
Experience mentoring pre-service and inservice teachers
Experience in mentoring principals and leaders
Experience navigating online platforms and tools
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Bilingual Spanish and/or holder of a Bilingual Authorization in Spanish desirable
