JOB SUMMARY:

This position is accountable for facilitating learning, academic achievement and personal development by providing instruction to students. This position also develops and implements curriculum and lesson plans, utilizes technology to facilitate learning, and demonstrates understanding the varying learning styles and the needs of a diverse student population.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience working with special needs students ages 18-22.

Experience working within a Transition Program or Transition age students.

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License with a 9-12 LBSI Endorsement registered in Lake County.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.Considerable knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods and approaches, and currently researched best practices and strategies;

2.Considerable knowledge of planning, developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans;

3.Knowledge of child development;

4.Knowledge of classroom management techniques;

5.Knowledge of instructional technologies;

6.Knowledge of learner outcomes;

7.Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts;

8.Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS);

9.Some knowledge of community resources;

  14. Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations;

  15. Ability to apply the principles of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS);

  16. Ability to evaluate student performance and to present these evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement;

  17. Ability to multi task and be flexible;

  18. Ability to plan and implement lesson plans based upon District and school goals, as well as the objectives, needs and abilities of students;

  19. Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment;

  20. Ability to work with students with various disabilities;

  21. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

1.Communicates clear expectations to students, evaluates student performance, and communicates student progress, or lack of student progress, to each student, the administration and parents/guardians;

2.Counsels students regarding secondary and post-secondary options that support student career exploration or goals, arranges and facilitates off-site internships and apprenticeships, instructs students in basic work skills, and assists students in applying for jobs;

3.Creates syllabi that articulate course objectives and classroom expectations;

4.Develops and copies instructional materials, and orders instructional materials, supplies and products for the classroom and the lab;

5.Develops and implements instructional activities for students;

6.Develops curriculum in a specific vocational area, meets industry standards, state and national academic and skills standards, integrates students' prior knowledge, and updates curriculum as needed in order to maintain these standards;

7.Keeps records of attendance and specific issues;

8.Maintains current industry knowledge and career preparation requirements; and attends staff and other professional meetings;

9.Maintains instructional equipment as appropriate;



  1. Makes appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies, including computer technology. Provides for remediation when necessary;

  2. Prepares lesson plans and student assignments or activities in order to meet course objectives;

  3. Provides for a safe learning environment, free from violence, harassment or intimidation, and performs all the security functions necessary to maintain safety of students;

  4. Provides instruction in a specific vocational area based upon the curriculum,

  5. Provides students with co-curricular experiences that support or enhance the curriculum;

  6. Revises teaching methodology to accommodate students;

  7. Through a variety of staff development and other in-service activities, and improves performance in teaching, as well as meets District and professional growth requirements;

  8. Performs related duties as assigned.
