Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 105.

Attendance

Mowing/Construction Crew: Non- Rotating

40-hour work week, Monday

  • Friday, 7:00 AM

  • 3:30 PM. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Tourist District: Rotating

(1stweek) Monday

  • Friday, 7:00am

  • 3:30pm

(2ndweek) Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun, 7:00am

  • 3:30pm

Overview

The Parks Technician II objective is to maintain and mow the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of way, and beaches.

Responsibilities

  • Collect litter, large debris, animal carcasses, and tree limbs from parkland, facilities, right of way, and beaches.

  • Sanitize restrooms and restock toilet paper, soap, hand towels, etc.

  • Operate a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, tractors in different terrains and slopes.

  • Operate gas and electric equipment to weed eat and/or edge around sidewalks, fences, trees, shrubs, poles, signs, guardrails, inlets, meter boxes, and alleys.

  • Blow grass clippings and other miscellaneous debris off sidewalks, street curbs, parking lots and playgrounds.

  • Must be able to drive a work truck with trailer forward and reverse; must be able to negotiate turns in a safe manner without damaging trailer and tow hitch.

  • Install new or transplant plant life (such as trees, shrubs, and flowers), apply application and distribution of compost and mulch by hand, hand tools or powered equipment.

  • Lead assigned staff to complete tasks assigned by Park Operations Technicians III and Park Operations Supervisors.

  • Report all injuries from assigned staff to Park Operations Supervisors.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance logs and submissions for fleet repairs.

  • Liaison between department and citizens; responsible for ensuring assigned staff return and secure all issued equipment.

  • Must be able to remove graffiti using chemicals or pressure washer.

  • Must be able to apply paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories, and any other assigned locations using a roller paint brush.

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Certifications, Licenses or Other Requirements:

  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes

  • Requires operation of pickup trucks with trailers, motor vehicles, backhoes, tractors, aerial lifts up to 65 feet, and utility vehicles

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds to move and deliver work material

  • Must be able to walk for long periods and distances

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb to perform various maintenance functions.

  • Must be able to work safely outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions

  • Must be able to work around plant material such as trees, shrubs, bushes and grass

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work-related experience
  • A valid driver's license is required; CDL is preferred. Successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
