EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the daily operation of the park crews. Responsible for assisting in the preparation of the initial draft of the parks budget, assisting in the preparation of operating procedures of a non-policy nature, handling personnel matters, recommending purchases, and recommending procedural and policy changes to the Assistant County Administrator.

  • Plans daily work objectives and priorities for the various work projects; prepares detailed job schedules; trains and directs supervisors and subordinates in performance of their duties; confers with supervisors daily and advises them as necessary.

  • Responsible for interviewing prospective new hires or existing employees for promotional opportunities, selecting employees for special training, prepares and/or reviews employee evaluations, identifying and correcting personnel problems, handles grievances, and recommends disciplinary actions to the Assistant County Administrator as may be necessary.

  • Investigates citizen complaints and follows up to ensure that same are handled properly and timely; supervises activities to ensure fairness and appropriateness of solution in consideration of costs and other priorities.

  • Facilitates the development of departmental training and safety programs and supervises implementation of these programs.

  • Assists in the coordination of park activities with other agencies such as Kenton County Conservation District, other County departments, park groups from other Counties, utility companies, developers, and individuals. Assists in the preparation of records and makes regular report of same.

  • Coordinates with the Recreation Coordinator to plan and organize events.

  • Occasionally present information to groups and the Fiscal Court in a public meeting setting as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Ability to read and comprehend written reports, construction documents, technical materials, training materials, etc. and to communicate this information to others; ability to train people that may have varying degrees of education and previous training.

  • Good skills with numbers; ability to handle and analyze data and accurately present budgets, results, statistics, etc.

  • Good knowledge of the management skills required to plan, organize and coordinate activities of the various safety and regulatory groups and committees.

  • Good working knowledge of County ordinances, and State and Federal laws and regulations relating to road construction and maintenance activities.

  • Considerable knowledge of emergency services operations and emergency/disaster training methods and techniques; knowledge of operating procedures for warning and radiological defense systems.

  • Basic computer skills; ability to access programs on a PC and to perform word processing and spread sheets with some degree of proficiency.

  • Ability to spend approximately half of all working time in a field setting, without seasonal restrictions.

  • Ability to work effectively on a daily basis with general to limited supervision.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of a four (4) year college or university with a degree in management, business administration, or some related field, supplemented by progressively responsible supervisory experience in the construction and/or maintenance of parks and recreation facilities, roads, bridges, buildings, or related job functions; or any combination of formal training, job experience, and personal skills which demonstrates the individual's ability to effectively perform the requirements of the position.

Compensation will be set commensurate with credentials.

This is a responsible administrative, supervisory and technical position charged with directing the park maintenance and construction activities for the Parks and Recreation Department; personally responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the crew leader and employees engaged in maintaining the county parks. Duties are performed under very limited supervision. Reports to the Assistant County Administrator.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid Kentucky Class A Commercial Driver's License.

  • Must be able to be bonded.

  • On call 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift forty (80) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more.

  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Eye sight must be correctable to 20/20 vision.

  • Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid.
