Clay County Missouri has a great opportunity at Smithville Lake for someone with managerial skills. The Park Specialist III will oversee the park's fee collection, reservation administration, and campground operations. We are looking for someone proficient in MS Office applications, has knowledge of accounting principles and record-keeping, and is skilled at planning and organizing assigned work. Along with overseeing the day-to-day activities of the park's office, fee collection, and campgrounds this individual will supervise and schedule the park's office and seasonal staff.

The ideal candidate has an intermediate skill level with Excel and Word and a high school diploma or equivalent. The candidate will also hold a valid driver's license.

General Purpose:

The Park Specialist III oversees daily operations and administrative functions of Fee Collections for daily entrance and campgrounds assisting in supervision of seasonal staff, working with public, retail sales including campsite and shelter rentals, daily and season passes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all aspects of the parks fee collection, reservation administration, and campground operations, including the collection and tracking of office, fee collection, campground and marina revenues.

  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of the park's office, fee collection, and campgrounds; supervises and schedules the Park Specialist I and all seasonal staff.

  • Interprets Park regulations as needed

  • Assists the office administrative staff as directed by the Parks Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct approved training programs to office staff, camp host and fee collectors, assuring placement of well-trained temporary staff in the field including guest services, park knowledge, expectations of staff, and safety.

  • Work with Camp Hosts to ensure daily camping procedures and sales of camping passes in Camp Branch and Crows Creek campground.

  • Verify accuracy of daily deposits, ensuring receipts from revenue sources are entered parks software correctly.

  • Complete deposit when required.

  • Arrange the collection of cash and delivery of passes to fee collectors in the field and campgrounds.

  • Sell passes to the public, collect camping fees, and take individual and group shelter and camping reservations.

  • Create and maintain database, tracking sale of passes, shelter, event and group camp reservations.

  • Reconcile credit card deposits from park operations, including but not limited to, marinas, campgrounds and fee collection office.

  • Interact with Information Technology department regarding technology related to staffing, hardware and help desk solutions as needed.

  • Assist the public throughout the day with Park-related inquiries.

  • Answer questions electronically daily via Park Exchange and Parks chat.

  • Answer questions on the phone and in person pertaining to general information, directions and selling season pass.

  • Conduct weekly audit of temporary staff timecards for accuracy and approves timecards for processing.

  • Provide administrative support as needed, assisting with training and daily paperwork such as absence requests, injury reports, etc.

  • Manage submissions of Special Event applications, ROA's and Revocable Licenses as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and record-keeping.

  • Skilled in the operation of a personal computer and various software applications and other office equipment.

  • Skilled in using databases, spreadsheets and other office forms.

  • Skilled in the interpretation and application of rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Ability to plan and organize assigned work.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate

  • Intermediate skill level with personal computers.

  • Intermediate skill level with Excel and Word.

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator license and the ability to drive a motor vehicle under normal and emergency response situations.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderately quiet; at times the noise level may be loud, with frequent interruptions and multiple demands.

Required Travel:

  • Employee will be required to travel throughout the Parks grounds and may be required to travel throughout the County.
