Parks & Recreation Specialist (Working Title: Siesta Beach Program Assistant): This is work providing planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and/or assisting with the activities, programs and events for the County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department. The advanced level provides administrative oversight and management and operation of recreational or nature-based programs, parks and/or facilities.

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug-screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.
Plans, develops, implements and promotes recreational based programs and also assists others in planning, developing, implementing and promoting recreational based programs centered around a facility or assigned area(s). Assist with division wide special events and coverage of other beaches and water access sites as needed. Assist with summer camps, specialty camps, and other facility needs. Responsible for coordinating maintenance and contractual work to ensure safe, clean parks for customers renting amenities within the park.
Schedules and coordinates reservations, groups, instructors, contracts, and registrations utilizing reservation software.
Assist with creating and distributing promotional information for recreational programs and facilities.
Provides customer service. Work with neighborhood, youth, and community groups. Assist with volunteers to partner and optimize recreational opportunities for the public.
Collect fees and charges for services rendered at Siesta Beach and Water Access Parks, assist with facility rentals, and daily closeouts.
A High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience in recreational programming or in related area. A valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.
Recreational programming experience preferred. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP). Money handling and customer service skills preferred.
Job Competencies: Computer skills including Microsoft Office Professional, RecTrac or similar reservation software.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with groups and individuals. Ability to work independently and ability to solve problems and develop service improvements. Ability to communicate effectively and in writing.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
May use a dolly or have assistance from a team member when moving heavy items.
