Our Parks and Recreation department is seeking a self-directed group of (4) four individuals to be responsible for the primary operation of Cone Park. These Parks and Recreation Specialists must be dependable and able to work unsupervised.

Candidates will be responsible for overall activities in the Cone Park facility, able to direct and lead staff during regular hours and special events.

Employees in this job classification may assign duties to staff as needed during facility usage and change duties based upon the event; be responsible for reports/inventory; submit supply requisitions; log/maintain staff hours.

First Aid certification is a plus.

Employees in this job classification work in an outdoor environment with regular exposure to cold, possibly below freezing temperatures & wind chills.

Employees must be willing to work evening/weekend hours; hours may change day to day.

Duties

  • Performs customer service and public relations duties.

  • Compiles and/or completes reports; incidents, injuries, financials and scheduling.

  • Oversees assigned staff and logs/verifies payroll hours.

  • Gives direction to staff and works with the community to promote understanding of the facility and goodwill toward the facility.

  • Works with the public and supervises public and private-party participants.

  • Sets up and tears down chairs, tables and recreational equipment.

  • Performs basic cleaning and maintenance of facility, restrooms; trash removal, dry & wet mop, snow removal/salting, and litter patrol.

  • Cleans, re-stocks and maintains floors & rugs using appropriate machinery.

  • Makes light repairs to equipment and maintains glass and does painting as required.

  • Acts as resource person in the facility.

  • Becomes belay-qualified to belay and supervise climbing wall participants, if applicable.

  • Stores, prepares, and serves food products and refreshments in a manner that meets all local and state health code requirements as well as facility rules and guidelines.

  • Acts as resource person in the given specialty to other Parks and Recreation Specialists or leaders, and to community civic groups.

  • Trains volunteers as necessary to satisfactorily carry out the specialty program involved.

  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the position as assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance and working hours. Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds.

  • Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

Qualifications

Cognitive Demands, Skills and Abilities: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to create, organize, and maintain accurate records and follow prescribed cash handling procedures.

Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in operation of recreation facilities and/or programs. Ability to coordinate personnel and programs. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Parks and Recreation guests and staff. Ability to communicate with Parks and Recreation guests, supervisors, and co-workers in a positive, friendly manner both orally and in written form Ability to be diplomatic and pleasant under stressful conditions.

Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you, ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), ability to see details at a distance, ability to identify and understand the speech of another person, ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully oversee all facets of the facility; some knowledge of first?aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in public work; ability to coordinate multiple events and multi-task.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication: Requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide assistance to customers (external and internal). Requires the ability to write and speak clearly, distinctly and effectively with fellow employees and the general public; read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.

Requires the ability to work as a member of a team in order to accomplish tasks; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; and the ability to relate to minorities, women, and other protected classes in the community at all socioeconomic levels.

Physical Requirements: The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects, ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; this involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue, ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing, ability to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms, and/or legs. Good physical condition.

Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a normal inside office environment with appropriate heating and cooling and is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards other than those normally associated with general public contact, dust or odors.

The employee occasionally works with commercial food preparation equipment with related exposure to hot grease, food warmers, beverage dispensers, refrigerators, freezers and a variety of electrical appliances with potential to electric shock, cooking fumes and odors and hot grease. The noise level in the work place is usually moderate.

The employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions with regular exposure to cold, often below zero degrees and low wind chill. Schedules/hours may every day to day, ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Minimum Required Qualifications

Must obtain a First Aid & CPR certification within (30) thirty days following appointment to the position. Must obtain belay qualification within (30) thirty days following appointment to position, if applicable.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

One year of related work experience including some recreation experience, leadership or supervision of staff, and building maintenance experience preferred.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
