Job Description

Performs responsible semi-skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and care of the County's grounds and related structures and equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The hiring range for this position is from $14.68/hour to $19.82/hour based on experience.

The full range for this position is from $14.68/hour to $24.96/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Examples of Duties

• Assisting with building and grounds maintenance work;

• Operates a variety of mowers in grass cutting operations;

• Assists in repairing drives and walkways;

• Marks off athletic fields to prescribed standards;

• Operates light automotive or power equipment in connection with above tasks;

• Runs errands, picks up and delivers supplies and materials;

• Assists in the propagating, planting, cultivating, watering, and spraying of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees, and turf areas;

• Cuts, prunes, and trims trees, shrubs, and hedges, rakes leaves and removes fallen limbs and trash;

• Operates a variety of potentially dangerous cutting and drilling tools;

• Performs litter control duties;

• Performs custodial and maintenance tasks for recreational facilities;

• Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in horticulture; general knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of the standard building trades; some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to use common hand tools; ability to operate machinery and equipment.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in grounds work and electrical, plumbing, and carpentry experience.
