Job Description Summary:
This position works in the Parking and Transportation Services, Parking Maintenance Division. Position reports to the Parking Ground Manager.
Incumbent will service parking garages, surface lots and other associated areas within 75 acres. The employee in this position will be responsible for providing
Grounds maintenance services including collecting refuse from receptacles and surface areas, maintenance and care of refuse receptacles, assisting with general maintenance and repair duties, assisting with snow removal services. Position serves in a position with much latitude and moderate level of decision making.
The position works to fulfill the ultimate goal of helping to create a campus environment that promotes safety, health, embraces the University beautification program, and supports the Department and University performance excellence based strategic initiatives. Incumbent engages and works in a manner that fully supports the goals of the Campus Master Plan in a customer focused & value-added manner. Position is subject to working in extreme weather conditions.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications
Work Experience: Six (6) months experience as in grounds maintenance, general maintenance, general laborer, or a closely related field.
Other Job Duties Outlined:
Waste Collection and Receptacle Maintenance (60%)
Collect waste from receptacles outside parking garages, surface lots and other campus areas daily.
Inspect and clean each location to ensure areas have no litter or debris at all times. Inspection includes area around the receptacle and attached surface areas.
Provide maintenance and care of refuse receptacles, recycle bins and other containers on a regular basis.
Ensure receptacles maintain a clean and well-kept appearance.
Demonstrate ability to develop routes and schedules.
Develop and maintain proper scheduling of refuse collection.
Ensure collection contents are removed, transported, and disposed of according to set policies and procedures.
Maintain records and documentation of actions taken, as directed.
Parking Maintenance Duties (20%)
Assist the General Maintenance Worker and General Maintenance Worker Senior in the execution of their duties at the direction of the Parking Garage Manager.
Duties include preventive maintenance, skilled repairs, signage placement and replacement as well as painting and stripping garages and surface lots.
Operation of Vehicles and Equipment (10%)
Operate department vehicle in a manner that is safe and in accordance with laws and ordinances.
Operate and maintain all equipment in a proper, appropriate, and safe manner.
Snow Removal and Preparation Activities (5%)
Incumbent assists with the removal of snow and ice during adverse weather conditions.
Fill mobile and stationary equipment with salt/sand for use during snow removal activities.
Organize hand and mechanized tools. May be subject to on-call- or call-in status.
Responsible for keeping snow removal uniform and equipment (including pagers) available and in good working order at all times.
Other Duties as assigned (5%)
Assist with the maintenance of supplies and inventory records.
Perform other duties as needed for special events such as graduation and employee's recognition, etc.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
