This position is responsible for providing routine, preventative maintenance and repair in the municipal garages and related property (branded as "ParkBurlington"). This includes plumbing and electrical fixtures (as limited by code), masonry and concrete as well as custodial work. This position is also responsible for providing garage security.

Pay Grade 11: $21.77 - $24.22 Hourly

  • Perform routine, preventative maintenance, repair and light construction at garage facilities including but not limited to:

  • Light plumbing and electrical work as limited by code,

  • Plumbing tasks may include seasonal line draining and trouble-shooting; install, remove and repair valves and fixtures including toilets and sinks,

  • Electrical work is specifically limited to light bulb replacement,

  • Air filter cleaning and replacement,

  • Elevator up-keep (e.g. general cab maintenance and cleaning; windows, walls, floors, light fixtures and door tracks, etc.),

  • Maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems; adjustments as necessary,

  • Light carpentry,

  • Replacement of glass, doors or windows,

  • Install, clean, repair and replace signs in and outside the garages,

  • Maintain and install amenities including but not limited to trash receptacles, bike racks etc.,

  • Masonry and concrete repair,

  • Paint and prep,

  • Assist contractors to ensure projects are complete and in a timely manner,

  • Operate mechanical and manual equipment and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment such as replacement of shear pins, bolts and cotter pins, air cleaners, spark plugs, etc.,

  • Repair/replacement of gate system mechanisms such as gate replacement, restarting equipment, re-setting the point-of-sale system, etc.

  • Custodial work entails:

  • Open garage facilities, including but not limited to turning on parking equipment, unlocking stair towers, etc.,

  • Routine cleaning of parking garage gate and ticket equipment,

  • Sweep, clean and remove trash from outdoor walkways, driveways, and facility grounds,

  • Sweep, vacuum and mop floors throughout all garages including elevators, stairwells, offices and booths,

  • Empty and clean trash containers; prepare trash for removal from property by outside garbage contractors,

  • Clean and sanitize bathroom sinks and toilets,

  • Maintain safe and accessible walkways, ramps and exits using a variety of materials including but not limited to de-icing products, cement and brick, simple debris removal etc.,

  • Remove snow and ice from walkways and garage facilities using manual and mechanical equipment as necessary,

  • Report to supervisor on inventory and supply needs,

  • Clean and replenish supplies of all dispensers in rest rooms,

  • Remove graffiti and address vandalism in parking facilities, notifying supervisor as necessary.

  • General:

  • Maintain records, checklists and logs as necessary and required by supervisors,

  • Answer questions for the public and/or direct them to an Ambassador,

  • Ensure garage security and report unusual events to supervisor and/or Police,

  • Use equipment in accordance with all VOSHA and Department policies and procedures.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in general facility maintenance work.

  • Possess and maintain valid State Driver's License.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of heating, plumbing and electrical systems.

  • Ability to operate a variety of mechanical and manual hand tools.

  • Ability to operate a 3/4 ton truck with plow, lawn mower, string trimmer and sweeper.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of employees, vendors, tenants and the general public.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Ability to operate a variety of mechanical and manual hand tools required.

  • Ability to be entrusted with keys to offices, facilities, tools and equipment.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions required.

  • Ability to be on call and work nights, weekends and holidays as required.

  • Work in a safe manner and ensure that others, including contractors, also work in a safe manner.

  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.

  • Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
