POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to welcome a dynamic and innovative Park and Recreation Manager to lead the team at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. This position will manage, lead, and direct the overall operations of the regional recreation center, including developing program strategic plans, policies, and procedures for standardization, budgeting, and human resource management within the facility. In addition, this position will be responsible for providing training, direction and coaching to facility and program staff in program service delivery as well as industry best practices. The incumbent will also directly support the implementation of the facility's strategic plan, program development manual and standard operating procedures of facilities. The selected candidate will be essential in communicating, coordinating, and cooperating with associated agencies/organizations, partners, neighborhood associations and advisory councils to further serve the residents of Mecklenburg County.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification

  • Recreation Facility Operations Experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage one of the park regions, recreation or nature centers and sports facilities to include staff, budgeting, purchasing, revenue attainment, human resource management, contract management, networking with neighborhood associations and other community organizations to provide recreational services

  • Administer fiscal management, develop annual budgets, monitor expenses and revenues

  • Oversee maintenance management plan for assigned area and evaluate the effectiveness of the maintenance plan to provide clean, safe, and attractive parks or facilities

  • Assess assigned area conditions and recommends long range park capital needs

  • Determine public community workshop schedules with citizens and implements workshop strategy to achieve community input

  • Assess community needs and priorities and develops recommendations and action plans based upon professional standards and judgment

  • Network with towns, churches, other government agencies, businesses, CMPD, outside organizations etc.

  • Provide leadership and direction for asset management of facilities

  • Monitor and coordinate opening, closing, customer service, security, and safety

  • Maintain, monitor, and inspect inventories of equipment, supplies, rolling stock, facilities and undeveloped properties

  • Facilitate the flow of information across department and division staffs

  • Serve as the staff liaison to a district advisory council to include arranging meetings, establishing agendas and submitting minutes

  • May need to response to emergency situations

  • Approve contracted services and maintains contract compliance

  • Supervise and participate in the planning of long- and short-range goals for the division

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of experience in area of assignment; including one (1) year of supervisory experience or completion of an approved supervisory training program

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field

Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: Yes

Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges.; First Aid/CPR

Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
