We expect to fill 4 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.

These are permanent, career seasonal positions.

FOR GS-5:

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: assisted and/or worked under the direct supervision of a higher graded employee performing duties that required the basic knowledge of land management programs, natural or cultural history, fish or wildlife habitat characteristics, techniques of resource protection and use, recreational use of lands, enforcement of regulations, or fire prevention techniques and/or fire suppression methods; operated basic tools required to perform maintenance; used a computer to type, record, and/or retrieve data.

  • OR-

Education: completed four years of study above high school leading to a bachelor`s degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. (transcripts required)

FOR GS-7:

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: administered operations, such as day-to-day operation of a recreation site, which involved onsite decisions and judgments; made surveys to locate or collect various types of information, such as soil erosion, deer transects, and water or air quality, that require the application of judgment and knowledge of particular program areas; provided clear information to supervisors, co-workers, and the public on land management programs, natural or cultural history, fish or wildlife habitat characteristics, techniques of resource protection and use, recreational use of Federal lands, enforcement of Federal regulations, and/or fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods.

Education: completed one full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained while pursuing a degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled to include completing four years of study above high school leading to a bachelor`s degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (transcripts required)

Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven, or rock surfaces.

The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching, and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.

Work Environment: Most work will be performed outdoors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations.

Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
