General Description

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PARK RANGER (ELAMP)!

This role is an entry level position performing semi-skilled manual labor in the Natural Resources Conservation Division--within the Parks Recreation & Natural Resources department, in the field of natural resources management including land management.

Essential Job Functions

Entry-level position which conducts routine land management duties on a regularly scheduled basis on lands managed under the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program (ELAMP) within the Natural Resource Conservation Division, as well as maintenance of equipment required in the performance of duties.

Primary work includes semi-skilled labor and tasks using hand and power tools, light and heavy-duty maintenance equipment, prescribed burning activities, and application of mechanical and chemical invasive plant treatments. Cleans, mows, edges, trims, and generally maintains lands, trails, and conservation areas managed under the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program within the Natural Resources Conservation Division.

Plants, prunes, and trims bushes, shrubs, and trees. Treats and controls invasive species through herbicide application. Establishes/maintains trails on ELAMP lands using chainsaws, pole saws and large to medium sized farm tractors.

Assists with general site maintenance such as emptying trash, cleaning, painting, repairing gates, fences. Assists with inspection and maintenance of all site amenities and natural resource management on all county preserves.

Ensures ELAMP rules are enforced pertaining to all natural and historical and archeological facilities and resources are used for the enjoyment of the visitor. Ability to learn and implement natural resource management techniques.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general methods of maintainingnatural areas and land management principles.

  • Ability to operate a County vehicle both on and off the road including 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, tractors and other land management equipment

  • Knowledge of the methods and tools used in this work.

  • Ability to use hand tools and to operate light-duty and heavy duty maintenance equipment in the performance of basic land management activities.

  • Ability to understand and carry out general oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to convey basic information orally and in writing.

  • Ability to deal courteously and respectfully with the public.

  • Skilled in the use of hand tools utilized in basic construction/maintenance activities.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires working outdoors in a wide variety of natural settings and conditions.

Ability to walk, bend, squat and stoop frequently. Able to perform manual labor. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of field experience in land management required.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a Florida valid driver's license.
