About Umpqua Lighthouse State Park: Located less than a mile from the renowned Salmon Harbor Marina in Winchester Bay, our park is celebrated for its exceptional crabbing and sports fishing opportunities along the Oregon coast. The campground and developed day-use areas are nestled by the serene freshwater Lake Marie, perfect for non-motorized boating. Visitors also enjoy hiking, picnicking, fishing, paddling, and relaxing on the small sandy lakeside beach.

What you will do:

As a Park Ranger 3, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's mission to provide and protect outstanding natural, scenic, cultural, historic, and recreational sites. You will independently manage a significant program or facility within the Coastal Region, encompassing specialized park skills such as resource interpretation, cultural and natural resource restoration, complex utility operations, maintenance programs, park rule enforcement, and visitor services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Park Ranger 3: Five years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping);

OR

  • A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field and 2 years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping);

OR

  • An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 3.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.

  • You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment

  • Skill and knowledge of complex park resource and facility operations and maintenance and/or resource interpretation.

  • Skill in "Verbal Judo" or similar tactical communications method. .

  • Skill in evaluating situations, applying rules and guidelines, determining and carrying out appropriate course of action to achieve desired results.

  • Skill in mentoring, coaching and training employees in park maintenance and campground reservation software

  • Skill in teaching Quality customer service techniques to employees.

  • Skill in teaching basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks to employees.

  • Skill in teaching employees how to diagnose maintenance and operation problems, breakdowns and disruptions, and how to initiate and carry out solutions.

  • Skill in maintaining composure and taking appropriate action during emergency or emotionally charged situations.

  • Skill in the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.

  • The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS. If you are not yet PERS eligible, the 6.95% pay increase and employee contribution will be effective upon PERS eligibility.
