The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands Division, is recruiting to fill a Seasonal-15 Weeks Park Ranger position located at Two Lights State Park.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is maintenance and personal services work in providing services to park users at a state park or day use area. Work may also include:

  • Cleaning and general maintenance of campsites

  • Preserving hiking trails and trail heads

  • Maintaining boat launch facilities

  • Enforcing Park rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the environment, facilities, and park users.

  • Operating specialized equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and bulldozers in order to maintain the park areas.

  • Meeting and greeting the public and providing information concerning public lands facilities and rules, historical data, and other related information in order to advise the public.

  • Directing and overseeing the activities of a small crew of maintenance and operations personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of experience in park maintenance and operation or equivalent.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator's license.

The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.

  • Housing is required in the Penobscot River Corridor and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

  • In general, housing is not available at the other parks.

  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required.

  • Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency.

A job offer to a new hire is conditional upon verification of credentials, criminal record, and driver's license check if applicable. Three references must be made available at the interview to include at least one work-related reference. Anyone meeting the minimum qualifications of the position may apply.

  • Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts- Set aside money pre-tax to help pay for out-of-pocket health care expenses and/or daycare expenses.
