Description

The Park Project Coordinator coordinates with numerous departments, divisions, stakeholders, and partners in the stewardship of Covington parks. This includes planning, budgeting, prioritization, and communication for ongoing park maintenance and special project management. Specialized event management will also be expected for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work independently and be responsible for overseeing projects at designated locations.

  • Day-to-day monitoring of facility operations, including site visits as necessary.

  • Collaborate with partners to promote the sustainable expansion of efforts to manage natural areas within parks and trails.

  • Assist in the development and renovation of new and existing park facilities including playgrounds, athletic fields, shelters, trails, gardens and natural areas.

  • Provide budgetary recommendations and oversight for park projects.

  • Coordinate both contracted and In-house projects as needed.

  • Publicize, promote and market Information to the public about departmental efforts.

  • Collect and maintain records to evaluate success of projects and programs; prepare reports describing and Identify areas to improve.

  • Maintain and oversee the use of park maintenance supplies, equipment and materials such as such as pumps, generators and pressure washers.

  • Minor vehicle maintenance and general operations.

  • Enforce City policies, procedures and park rules.

  • Follow the purchasing, administrative and other policies and practices of the department.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Work hours will be irregular including evenings and weekends.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinate the maintenance and operations of parks, facilities as well as all necessary equipment. This includes both long-term and short-term projects.

  • Supervise seasonal staff in daily management of parks, shelters and natural areas.

  • Monitor and evaluate park facilities, patron satisfaction and current/future needs.

  • Review and develop standard operating procedures.

  • Establish priorities and prepare maintenance and repair schedules and specifications.

  • Coordination tasks could include but are not limited to ordering supplies, contract management, collecting registrations, preparing essential materials, hiring and volunteer management.

  • Assist in the development of the department budget.

  • Assist in meeting program goals and objectives.

  • Coordinate support services on department sponsored special events and programs.

  • May represent the department to outside groups and organizations, participate in outside community and professional groups and committees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Playground inspection, GIS, chainsaw and pesticide certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of parks and recreation management, such as turf management, arboriculture, horticulture, building and facility design, construction, maintenance, conservation and equipment operations.

  • Experience with community engagement and natural resources/environmental education preferred.

  • Knowledge of safe and proper operations and maintenance of typical park and recreation equipment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.

  • Knowledge of office management, experience working with budgets, record and drafting and maintaining policies and procedures is essential for success in this position.

  • Ability to coordinate, organize and to manage multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines.

  • Competency in using word-processing, spreadsheets, and graphics software.

Supervision Received

Receives guidance from the Parks and Recreation Manager.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management, environmental science, natural resource management, construction management or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in office management, program coordination, community outreach, recreation or related field preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license or have the ability to obtain on upon hire.

  • Ability to work irregular hours which include evenings and weekends.

Tools and Equipment Used

  • This position uses standard office equipment and basic computer software programs.

  • Should have basic knowledge of tools and equipment used by the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am

  • 4:30 pm. Evening, weekend or hours adjustments may be required as job duties demand.
