General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PARK OPERATOR II This role involves responsible supervisory work in management and supervision of park maintenance/operations at a multipurpose District Park/Recreation Complex focusing on active recreational pursuits. Essential Job Functions Assists with selection and trains, directs, supervises, coordinates, assists, controls and evaluates full-time (5 or more) and part-time staff, contractors and volunteers handling maintenance and operational responsibilities.

Responsible for the maintenance of 5 to 10 fields that Leagues and the general public reserve. May assume additional responsibilities if the Supervisor is unavailable. Interacts with the public providing and receiving information, explaining and enforcing rules and regulations, recording and monitoring reservations, and handling public requests and complaints.

Oversees the operation and maintenance of all park facilities, including athletic fields, outdoor courts, buildings including restrooms, gymnasium, aquatic facilities, picnic areas and shelters, playgrounds, trails, parking lots and roadways. Schedules and coordinates work with outside crews, vendors and other departments or agencies. Operates and supervises the operation and maintenance of all equipment, including tractors, utility vehicles, utility lifts, field stripers, mowers, scrubbers, buffers and pickup trucks.

Performs weekly irrigation and active field inspections. Completes regularly scheduled inspections of all park areas and facilities to ensure high standards are maintained and to ensure public safety. Keeps records and reports on problems and/or concerns regarding operations and conditions of facilities or programs and prepares payroll.

Issues verbal and written instructions to correct problems and follows up on work requests. Plans, schedules, performs and supervises employee training in all areas of performance. Actively participates in professional development and initiates suggested changes and new programs.

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all. Assists with preparation, evaluation and implementation of annual program budget. Prepares specifications and initiates requisitions to get supplies and contract out special projects.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.

Assists with and performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of best practices for active field maintenance.

Knowledge of swimming pool operations and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the operational and maintenance requirements of typical District Park facilities, amenities and assigned equipment. Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques required for park maintenance and management.

Knowledge of public and employee safety practices and precautions. Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing procedures. Ability to plan, organize, direct, supervise and control the work of staff, volunteers and others to accomplish required tasks and handle responsibilities using both oral and written skills.

Ability to provide training to lower-level employees. Ability to deal with the public (all ages) tactfully and effectively in both written and verbal form, providing information, handling complaints, and enforcing regulations. Ability to understand, interpret and implement, sometimes complex, verbal and written policies, procedures, and instructions.

Skilled in public service problem resolution. Must complete leadership and communication courses through NeoGov. Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.

Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.

May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects.

Ability to bend, stoop, squat, climb, and walk. Ability to operate equipment and use hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

May require weekend, night, and holiday work. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in Parks and Recreation or related field with three (3) years' experience in park maintenance or management, with one (1) year in a supervisory positionOR possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years' of experience, with one (1) year in a supervisory position.

For In-house applicants: This position qualifies for DAP. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in Standard First Aid, and CPR must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Professional Parks and Recreation Certification preferred.
