Park Maintenance Assistant

  • Orange Coast DISTRICT / South SECTOR / San Clemente State Beach

Post & Bid: This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is San Clemente State Beach in San Clemente, CA. However, this position may require you to work at the other Park Units throughout the South Sector. This position will work under the supervision of Park Maintenance Supervisor.

The incumbent's work schedule will be Tuesday to Saturday from 07:00 AM to 03:30 PM.

This position will be responsible for training, leading, and coordinating subordinate staff in routine park cleanup and maintenance operations and will assist with the development and implementation of the unit's housekeeping program. This position will also be required to assist senior maintenance staff with building repairs / construction projects that are more demanding and complex in nature, allowing the incumbent the opportunity to gain the hands-on experience needed to grow their skills in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, and other building trades work. This position may be required to assist with groundskeeping assignments as needed, including, but not limited to, assisting with brush removal / fuel reduction, tree limbing, planting, irrigation repairs, mowing / weed eating, trail repairs and maintenance, and other related work assignments as dictated by operational need. Additionally, this position will be required to act as a lead for the unit's Court Referral Laborer work program.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions
