DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking Park Maintenance Aide Positions to join its Greenspace Maintenance Section team.

The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:

• Maintain Park grounds by picking up litter and debris.

• Performs basic cleaning of park facilities, some custodial duties, and monitors supplies in restrooms.

• Report any problems or hazardous conditions to designated authority.

• Perform additional assignments as required.

• Candidates will be responsible for their own safety shoes.

WORKING CONDITIONS   

There are routine exposures to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Very fundamental levels of ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.  

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No experience is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving (A.P. 2-2). Applicants who can work Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, and Holiday shifts. Also, preference will be given to those applicants that have experience in grounds maintenance and applicants who have a valid Texas Class C driver's license.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.  SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED

The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.

If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

SALARY INFORMATION       

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
