Position Summary

This is a seasonal/short term assignment for a maximum of six months. This position is open

until filled and may close without notice.

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The purpose of this position is to provide grounds maintenanceand tomaintain the appearances and services of Farmers Branch.

Essential Job Functions

Provides grounds maintenance including: irrigation system installation,maintenance, and repair; vehicle maintenance; litter and trash control; pestcontrol services; signage; maintenance of park benches, picnic tables, grills,and trash cans; trimming, planting, mulching, and landscaping; haulingheavy items and equipment; and overseeing assigned volunteers.

Provides general maintenance and support at special events includingpreparation activities and litter/trash control; hauling light and heavy items,installing temporary safety fences and trash cans.

Education and Experience

Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge is equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.

One year of experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.

Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner. Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.

Basic ability to recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words. Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.

Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.

Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques.

Skill in operating both heavy and light equipment. Skill in the use of smallhand tools and power tools.
