Parks Business Services Coordinator

The Washington County Park and Trail System, located in Washington County Wisconsin, strives for a desirable and sustainable park and trail system and has an exciting opportunity to manage and build the County's wedding program (including Glacier Hills County Park Hall in Richfield and Homestead Hollow Barn in Germantown). The Business Services Coordinator works to strategically advance the wedding program to increase sales revenue and provide exceptional experiences for brides and other end park users. This is an exempt position and will require scheduled hours on nights and weekends, particularly during wedding season.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Park & Trail System Manager, plans, develops, markets, and operates revenue related programs in the County's park and trail system, thereby adding to the sustainability of the Park System. Oversees the implementation and marketing of the wedding venues program, fundraising efforts, sponsorship programs, shelter rental program, park pass program, etc.

Fundamental Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and advances the wedding venue program; responds to all inquiries of our venues and services promptly (all incoming calls, emails, and messages), develops and implements marketing plans/strategies, coordinates and gives tours, researches, seeks and implements contracts and or partnerships with private sector operators, to maximize exposure and revenue for the parks enterprise.

  • Creates and maintains local connections with local sales managers, wedding planners, wedding vendors, bed and breakfast operators etc. in order to generate referrals.

  • Maintains an expert knowledge of wedding & event trends and local industry resources.

  • Serves as County liaisons for special event partnerships (i.e. beer garden series, Fall Fest, other).

  • Serves as County liaisons for recreational programming partnerships (i.e. YMCA, non-profits, local municipalities, etc.).

  • Manages the County's park communication and marketing presence on social media and other advertisement platforms (i.e. Yelp, Google, Wedding Knot, etc.).

  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for the home rental program, cabin/campground program, revenue generating park amenities, and shelter reservation program and user fee system.

  • Assist with reports and plans as directed (i.e. Parks Fiscal Sustainability Plan, Parks Naming Rights & Sponsorship Plan, weekly and annual Park & Trail System Reports, etc.).

  • Works to organize, implement and expand the County's Park Naming Rights and Sponsorship Plan.

  • Assists with developing and implementing fundraising plans & goals for park projects and missions as directed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

Qualified candidates for this position must possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Park and Recreation Management, Tourism, or similar discipline.

  • Minimum age of 18

  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and must be available for frequent evening and weekend meetings/tours.

Preferred candidates will possess:

  • 1-2 years of recent part-time or full time paid experience in a related position (customer service, sales, marketing, etc.).

  • Strong customer service background with a focus on excellent oral and written communication.

  • Outgoing personality with aptitude for describing an event with passion and excitement.

  • Self-motivated and well organized often working unsupervised out of the office onsite in parks.

  • Knowledge of social media and marketing (Facebook & Instagram).

  • Graphic design experience (Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator).

Compensation:

This is a salary paid position $44,059.70,195 - $49,080.25 annually depending on past experience. Washington County offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes: Health, Dental, and Life Insurance; Short and Long Term Disability; Medical and Dependent Flexible Spending Accounts; Wisconsin Retirement System and Wisconsin Deferred Compensation (IRS 457); Paid Holidays and Paid Time Off (PTO).

Work Direction Received: By the Park and Trail System Manager

Decision Making:

Significant independent decision making regarding creation and execution of the County's Wedding Program including parameters, marketing, pricing and services offered.

Interaction:

Interaction with County Park's employees, current and potential future clients, other partners, and park patrons. This employee will often be working independently and away from the Parks Office. Ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and be friendly, professional, and self-motivated. Contact with other municipalities and press may occur.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

Expert knowledge of park venues and rental packages/pricing. Individual will also have expert knowledge on event and wedding trends to ensure our venues remain attractive. Customer service experience, strong communication skills and professionalism.
