Minimum Qualifications One-year experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site or recreational facility; or two-years work experience in grounds keeping or landscaping. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Duties Description Philipse Manor Hall was the home of Frederick Philipse III who was one of over 200 colonial New Yorkers who signed the "Declaration of Dependence" and defended the crown and his loyalist beliefs. Once Philipse fled with his family back to England, the home was sold at public auction. In 1868, the home became the Yonkers Village Hall and in 1872, its first City Hall. The home was acquired by New York State in 1908. The site serves as a museum of history, art and architecture, as well as a host to community organizations, meetings, educational programs and special events. Highlights of the Hall include it's 18th century, high-style Georgian architecture, a 1750s Papier-mch Rococo ceiling, and an impressive collection of presidential portraits, including the six Presidents form New York State.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Maintenance/Docent performs routine maintenance using a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including but not limited to; mowers, snow plow/blowers, power tools, backpack blowers & line trimmers. The candidate should be able to perform basic building maintenance. They must be able to perform general housekeeping; cleaning of bathrooms, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, dusting, etc. The acquisition of a basic knowledge of the Hall and the family history is a must as well as a basic operation of a cash register or point of sale system.
Although it is a temporary and seasonal position, the position is year-round. The Position is capped at 1750 hours per year which works out to approximately 32 hours per week, with some schedule fluctuations by season.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
Must possess & maintain a valid New York State Driver's License as a term & condition of employment.
Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including ability to lift & move 80 lbs.
Must be reliable, punctual, and people oriented.
Must be flexible with their schedule.
Must have a variety of vehicle and equipment operations skills and experience.
Must be able to communicate effectively & read & comprehend written materials.
Must be able to communicate well with park patrons, and be available to work on weekends & holidays.
Duties may change or be added to correspond with the needs of Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site.
