The Childrens Museum of Houston seeks a Parent Stars Kit Specialist to work with the Parent Stars Program Manager and staff with the ongoing development and implementation of the Parent Stars program. Parent Stars is a parent engagement program to help parents of very young children understand how they can become integrally involved in promoting the science, math, and literacy learning of their children both at home and in the classroom. Parent Stars is one of the programs offered by CMHs Institute for Family Learning which supports the Museums mission to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning.


  • Prepares thematic activity kits with appropriate supplies to be user ready.

  • Restocks activity kits after each use

  • Inventory various supply items and reports needs to Parent Stars Manager.

Program Implementation

  • Works with Parent Stars Manager, Educator, and Associate to complete necessary steps for setup, implementation and breakdown of Parent Stars events. This includes pulling kits, kit replenishment, photocopying, etc.

  • Participates in the collection of evaluations and sign in sheets for all events and returns to Parent Stars Manager.

Other Duties

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all levels of management both internal and external to the Museum.

  • Completes normal administrative duties associated with an office environment including, copying, typing, and filing.

  • Participates in other Museum programs as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in educational settings.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

  • Must be proficient in using PC computers.

  • Detail-oriented and a team player

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.

  • Ability to travel throughout the city and region to present Parent Stars programming in a variety of settings. Has reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to work independently.

Physical Requirements:

  • Pushing/pulling cart and dolly

  • Bending at knees

  • Stooping/climbing

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
