Parent Liaison Job Description

Purpose: The goal of a parent liaison is to ensure all families feel welcome and are a

part of the educational process.

Duties and responsibilities:

? Attend professional development meetings with other district school parent liaisons to

develop strategies that improve attendance at family engagement events

? Engage in communication with all families (eg. personal phone calls/emails/texts)

? Prepare for and attend family engagement events to support student learning and

relationship-building

? Improve attendance at all family engagement events

? Maintain a communication log detailing all family outreach efforts and outcomes

? Connect families to resources that will meet their needs

? Assist in creating a welcoming environment for all families

? Collaborate with the school site Student, School, and Family Support Services

Coach/Family Engagement Lead

? Keep principals and teachers informed of any special needs or concerns of families

Additional skills and responsibilities:

? Fluent in English, Spanish, or Dine (preferred, but not required)

? Must have own transportation

? Ability to maintain confidentiality

? Ability to work positively with other parents and district personnel

? Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills

? Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor

Terms of Employment:

Parent liaisons will be paid $16/hour (not to exceed 10 hours/week) - the school

principal will determine the work calendar based on need and available funding.

Specific Ways Parent Liaisons Can Support their School

? Create a school newsletter for families. Try to include:

? ways for families to engage with their child(ren) at home

? Personal welcome phone calls to every Kindergarten / 6th-grade student in Aug-Oct

? Personal phone calls to invite families to APTT/PAC/other family engagement events

? Call parents to:

? see why they weren't able to attend APTT/PAC meetings after the fact

? go over activity or information they missed at the event

? Find volunteers to:

? help put together APTT packets

? volunteer at Book Fair

? help with teacher appreciation, etc.

? Support APTT planning and implementation

? Support debrief after family engagement events

? Help review feedback from families

? Support One-School, One-Book

? Support Open House

? Attend Open House/APTT/OSOB/PAC/other family engagement events

? Provide community resources at family engagement events

? Help connect families with resources (social worker, food bank, etc.)
