Position Description: Implement the curriculum provided by the National Parents as Teachers Center.
Serve up to 25 families (full time) including a minimum of 2 face-to-face contacts per month with each parent/family involved in the program: A minimum of 24 home visits per year per family.
Participate in planning and attending a minimum of 12 group meetings per year.
Coordinate services with other community programs with similar purposes; make recommendations for further screenings, evaluations, etc.
Support and enhance play groups, family group connections, and community events involving Parent Promise (health fairs, parent universities, speaking engagements, etc.) as needed.
Complete and submit all required program evaluations as required/requested by program supervisor.
Complete all required documentation regarding home visits, attendance records for PAT events, screening summaries and other reports requested by program supervisor.
Support and enhance maintenance of PAT activity Resource Room and the Parent Promise Family Resource Room.
Assist in planning and production of program advisory council as needed.
Assist in distributing and evaluating results of annual parent satisfaction surveys and other evaluation measures.
Actively recruit families to participate in the program.
Attend required certification training and become certified as a PAT Parent Educator.
Attend required individual and group supervision.
Attend training and become qualified to administer developmental screenings.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as determined by immediate supervisor or as needs arise.
Parent educators are mandated reporters and therefore must abide by laws governing mandated reporters.
Education and Experience requirements for this position consist of a Bachelors degree in Childhood Development, Social Work or closely related field, or a High School Diploma and 6 or more years of experience in Childhood Development, Social Work, or another closely related field.
Must have a commitment to the ideals of prevention, and be able to develop trusting, nurturing relationships.
Must be non-judgmental, compassionate and committed to child and family development.
Demonstrated ability to work with adults and their young children in an educational setting, preferably in an agency or school setting or through participating in home visits.
Experience conducting home visits with parents and children who have a variety of risk factors preferred.
Must have reliable transportation and current valid Oklahoma Drivers License with no violations according to Oklahoma Department of Public Safety records.
Insurance and verification required.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
Occasional stooping, bending, lifting and reaching.
Requires some travel.
Must have reliable car, drivers license and insurance.
Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
Must be comfortable visiting a variety of families in their homes and delivering educational services in a nonjudgmental manner.
