JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position works with students who have documented intellectual disabilities and have the motivation to attend college to earn occupational certificates and achieve employment. Collaborates with staff, to contribute to the production of newsletters, and advocate for parents and students in the program. Main point of contact, to address inquiries about Project STAGE activities and engages in discussions with staff and parents to enhance program success. Facilitates parent meetings, participates in intake processes, attends staff meetings, and stays updated through appropriate training and workshops directed by the Dean of Workforce Education.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with Project STAGE staff, produces three (3) newsletters per year and submits for approval by Dean two weeks prior to publishing.

  • Network with community organizations to promote Project STAGE and to facilitate services for Project STAGE students.

  • Encourages parent involvement and participation in center-based programs and activities.

  • Communicates with parents for the purpose of providing information to ensure student learning improvement.

  • Field parent, community, and college, questions regarding Project STAGE activities.

  • Addresses parent questions about students' progress in programs of study.

  • Advocates on behalf of the parent in college meetings regarding student progress in program or other concerns in the classroom or on campus.

  • Discusses general situations with staff and or parents that are pertinent to the success of the program.

  • Helps facilitate meetings with parents as needed.

  • Participates in initial intake meetings with referred families.

  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings and applicable trainings/workshops.

  • Maintains knowledge of all IRSC and Project STAGE policies and procedures.

  • Complies with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA - 34 CFR Part 99).

  • Completes all other duties as responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution OR a combination of education and a minimum of two (2) years related work experience with ESE students.

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Ability to interact professionally and politely with the public.

  • Possess organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize work responsibilities.

  • Ability to exercise initiative, problem-solve, and make decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to gather, interpret, and report information.

  • Strong computer/technology skills including the ability to use office desktop software such as MS Office and the Adobe Suite of applications.

  • Valid FL Driver License and insured personal vehicle, IRSC does not provide a vehicle for this position.

  • Bilingual is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training.

  • Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications.

  • Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop.

  • Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab.

  • Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques.

  • Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations.

  • Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate appropriate skills required of the program.

  • Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions.

  • Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials.

  • IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.

Additionally, all employees of the College are expected to maintain professional standards of communication, able to learn and apply new technology, and abide by all policies and procedures.
