The Paraprofessional is a hands-on position responsible for assisting the Teacher in the implementation of instruction for the youth enrolled in the Caminos education program. The position is highly collaborative and requires excellent documentation and organizational skills, as well as, fluent knowledge of the Spanish language.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma required; Associate of Arts degree preferred
Fluent in English and Spanish in both written and oral forms required
At least one year of prior experience working with children required
Prior experience working in an educational setting preferred
Prior experience working with students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program preferred
Prior experience working with at risk youth preferred
Fluently communicate written and orally in English and Spanish required
Must have good organizational skills
Ability to provide effective support in the implementation of curriculum and activities designated by the Teacher
Strong problem solving skills
Strong analytical and creative thinking skills
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Must be able to work within the philosophy of services to children and families consistent with the ministry and goals of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home
Must have sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide supplemental support to the Teacher of daily instruction to meet the education needs of the students.
Support the Teacher and students by following designated classroom management techniques.
Provide line of sight and sound supervision for students in the classroom and during designated activities that may occur outside of the classroom including: lunch time, physical education/outside activities, on-campus activities and field trips ensuring that mandated staff to youth ratios are maintained at all times.
Keep records and prepare reports as requested.
Conduct pre- and post- educational assessments.
Participate in Interdisciplinary Meetings, staff/teacher meetings, Planning Conferences, in-service training programs, Staff Meetings as requested.
Demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with both FUMCH and Office of Refugee Resettlement Policy and Procedures relating to the care and supervision of Unaccompanied Children. This includes knowledge of legal background and authority governing the practice as related to working with Unaccompanied Children.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
