JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the supervisor, the paramedic will provide initial medical care for UO employees and guests and complete required paperwork. The paramedic will work within protocols as determined by the medical director.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strictly adheres to and actively promotes all Health Services policies and procedures and Standing Orders while performing duties.

  • Examines and treats all Universal Orlando guests and employee injuries and illness according to company protocols and using sound paramedic judgment.

  • Provides timely documentation for each team member and guest completely, legibly and accurately; documenting the appropriate assessment and treatments; documenting on the appropriate paperwork and electronic files. Provides copies and files documents as required.

  • Authorizes treatment for team members to receive outside medical care. Notifies supervisors off all team members and guests sent off property for further treatment.

  • Completes shift responsibilities to include, opening and closing checklists, restocking supplies at bases, airway bags and shared department packs and equipment. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment

  • Maintains professional appearance and actions at all times. Presents in uniform as outlined by UO policy and department uniform standards and Team Member handbook

  • Remains current on all department and UO changes or directives, reviews Health Service homepage daily, department communication boards and asks supervisor clarifying questions.

  • Participates in staff meeting, in-service programs and program development activities as required or requested.

  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Positions in Health Services require:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Walking for prolonged periods (including ability to walk at a given pace that is predetermined by a moving sidewalk)

  • Ability to lift and or move 25 pounds

  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Hearing audible alarms, voice commands with background noise

  • Ability to maintain alertness and attentiveness up to 4 hours while working varying hours

  • Will require a valid Florida state driver's license

  • 1-2 years' experience

  • Obtain the following- FL Paramedic Certification, Basic Life Support, and Advance Cardiac Life Support

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol. * Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, ventilators, IV pumps, Hemodynamic monitoring devices, advanced airway adjuncts/procedures, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures, equipment and medications as required to provide advanced medical care. * Utilize and interpret common laboratory studies. * Manage complicated pharmacologic infusions. * Utilize advanced surgical procedures, e.g. escharotomy, cricothyrotomy. * Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls. * Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements. * Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care. * Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information. * Communicate with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given, and to show compassion. * Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed. * Drive the ambulance and provide map reading support to minimize call response time. * Keep current on certifications. * Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback. * Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of AMR. * Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call. * Follow policies and procedures regarding out-of-chute times and turnaround times. * Consider patient status and insurance preferred facilities when determining transportation destinations. * Ability to work past scheduled shift with little or no notice. * Work collaboratively with all allied health and public safety personnel at all times to ensure excellent customer service and the best possible patient care. * Report immediately to the on duty supervisor and/or account manager any incident involving a negative customer and/or patient interaction. * Read road maps, drive vehicles, and accurately discern street signs and address numbers. * Read medication/prescription labels and directions for usage in quick, accurate, and expedient manner. * Communicate verbally with patients and significant others in diverse cultural and age groups to interview patient, family members, and bystanders, and ability to discern deviations/changes in eye/skin coloration due to patient's condition and to the treatment given. * Document in writing, all relevant information in prescribed format in light of legal ramifications of such * Converse with dispatcher and EMS providers via phone or radio as to status of patient. * Maintain a driving record in compliance with AMR Safety and Driving Policy * Adhere to all company policies and procedures. * Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone's responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems. Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Negotiate with customers regarding additional service when appropriate (e.g., return transport). * Meet and communicate with existing customers/staff members (including skilled nursing, assisted living, and hospital facilities) on a regular basis to ensure that AMR is meeting their needs and to determine if there are any additional services that AMR is able to provide for them. Reports these interactions to the operations and/or account manager on a regular basis. * Actively solicit new business opportunities from facilities that we do not currently provide services for. Reports any interest in AMR's services from these facilities to the operations and/or account manager. * Coach and educate partners of new and changing information as necessary. * Participate in community programs to maintain AMR image and establish strong community relations. * Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements- (Field Employees Only) * Must be able to successfully pass Physical Agility Test * Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times. * Must be able to lift, drag, hoist, and carry different types of equipment and other objects. Minimum Qualifications: Education/Licensing/Certification: * High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Some advanced education preferred. * Current state Paramedic License. * Possess a valid State Driver's License. * Current BCLS/ CPR, ACLS, ITLS/PHTLS/ATLS and PALS/PEPP/PCC Provider Certification. * Driving record in compliance with AMR Safety and Driving policy. * Current state CCT license or 80 hour Critical Care Medical Transport/Critical Care Paramedic course plus 20 hours of clinical rotation in a critical care setting. * Documented 1 year field experience as a Paramedic (recommend 3-5 years Paramedic experience).
