Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Aids/assists in educating families about HIPPA and Lifetime Signature Authorization form.
Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safety standards established by departmental and hospital policy. Makes every effort to correct or report safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions to the proper authority.
Develops programs to attain personal goals and participates in educational activities to insure further professional growth.
Maintains and projects positive guest relations skills to Medical Center Ambulance Service visitors, patients, families, vendors and employees.
Communicates a positive image of Medical Center Ambulance Service, Inc. through personal and telephone contacts with guests and the general public. This includes maintaining the confidentiality of a patient's medical condition, records, and other important information.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.
Ensures positive customer relations interactions
Manages difficult or emotional customer situations

Responds to requests for service and assistance
Measures and records basic vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure
Performs spinal immobilization
Performs hemodynamic monitoring
Performs peripheral IV insertion
Performs NG placement
May administer medications listed on the dated attached guidelines as permitted by the Standing Protocols as approved by Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services
Can perform monitored patient transport
Performs basic wound care, including simple, clean dressing checks, changes and aseptic procedures
Applies/adjusts miscellaneous special devices such as immobilizers, slings, hot and cold packs, etc
Draws blood specimens (Venipuncture/Skin puncture) (as hospital policy and licensure regulations allow)
Performs Respiratory Care procedures including maintenance and transport, medicated/non-medicated aerosol, initiation cough/deep breath maneuvers, oxygen delivery and airway maintenance (i.e. suction: oral, nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, nasotracheal, endotracheal)
Responds to patients using Emergency lights/sirens according to Protocols
Performs basic patient care needs for hygiene, (i.e. bathe, groom, personal care, emotional support)
Maintains stretchers & LSB (Long Spine Board), including cleaning, changing and set-up
Checks and maintains emergency care supplies, (i.e. IV Bags, Drug Box, Ambulance Compartments, and Narcotic Box.)
Adheres to patient safety procedures, including those related to restraint, seizures, falls and transportation
Maintains a working knowledge of patient charts/records, filing information according to procedure
Operates within body substance isolation procedures when necessary, including disposal of waste
Assists Emergency Medical Technician in the delivery of basic life-support procedure
Performs routine clerical/secretarial tasks including answering phones, completing requisitions, documenting times on patient charts, etc
Assists in keeping work area clean and stocked including: cleaning and stocking treatment areas as necessary or requested distributing supplies (i.e. linen, I.V. equipment as needed and emptying linen carts at end of shift as required
Transports items (e.g., supplies, materials, equipment, drugs etc.) and patients to other departments in a safe manner utilizing equipment appropriate to condition
Assists in subsequent patient assessments following the initial triage
Acts as an integral part of the triage team in (i.e. Airway maintenance & Mass Casualty Incident
Performs continuous EKG monitoring as well as Performs 3, 4 &12 lead EKGs
Prepares samples and performs simple laboratory tests considered "waived" under CLIA regulations (i.e. blood glucose) and reports and documents findings according to policy and procedures
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
High School Diploma required. Completion of training program for Paramedic.
Licensure as Paramedic in the state of Kentucky, BLS certification required, ACLS certification required. NIMS required. PALS certification preferred.
Current KY DL required. EXPERIENCE: One year experience performing Paramedic care in an emergency response environment preferred.
