Job Summary

The Paramedic is responsible for the delivery of patient care under the guidelines of the Tennessee Department of Public Health EMS Board, the Georgia Department of Public Health Office of EMS and Trauma, as well as the guidance of the department Medical Director. The Paramedic will deliver care in the pre-hospital setting under the treatment protocols set forth and approved by the Director of EMS and the Medical Director.

Job Responsibilities
1.The Paramedic will provide emergency medical treatment and transport to the sick and injured under his care in accordance with all applicable laws and department protocols and procedures.
2.The Paramedic will document all patient care performed in the approved Patient Care Report program, using the required format.
3.The Paramedic will ensure that all required paperwork is completed and turned in by end of shift.
4.The Paramedic will ensure that his/her equipment is in a state of readiness and cleanliness at the beginning of each shift and their ambulance is fully stocked in accordance with departmental procedures.
5.The Paramedic will report any deficiencies and/or mechanical issues with their supplies, equipment, or vehicle to a supervisor in a timely fashion. They will restock the unit as necessary.
6.The Paramedic will attend any required education that is deemed necessary by the Director or the Medical Director.
7.The Paramedic will be responsible for his/her licensure and the required education for renewal. Education will be provided by the Department but it is the Paramedic's responsibility to ensure they have enough credits for their own renewal.
8.The Paramedic will perform any other duties as requested by a supervisor, the EMS Operations Manager, or Director of EMS.



  • High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited school of paramedics/sciences.

License and Certifications

  • Tennessee Paramedic License

  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS

  • Valid State Driver's License (If TN license, the "F" endorsement is required)


Either the following will be required within 6 months of hire:

State of Georgia Paramedic license/National Registry License (In order to obtain GA license)

Any 1 of the following Pediatric certifications (will be required within 6 months of hire): American Heart Association- PALS, National Assoc. of EMTs- EPC, or American Academy of Pediatrics- PEPP

Either of the following trauma certifications (will be required within 6 months of hire: American College of Emergency Physicians- ITLS or National Association of EMTs- PHLS

Either of the following driving course: Emergency Vehicle Operations Course- EVOC or Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator- CEVO

Assessment of any trauma or medical patient Initiation of indicated treatment modalities in accordance with written guidelines and verbal medical control direction. Possession of and the ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age (s) of the patient (s) transported by the air medical service, including the neonate through the geriatric age populations. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life spa The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and assimilate the information necessary to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age The demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide/prioritize care based on LIFEFORCE guidelines and procedures The demonstrated ability to work in and around helicopters in all phases of flight, and assist with maintaining cleanliness and efficiency of the air medical department. Refer to LIFEFORCE guideline 'Standards of Professional Performance of LIFEFORCE Air Medical Crew '7136.2001 for detailed job responsibilities. Education: Required: Graduate of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program. Preferred: An AS degree is recommended, a BS or MS degree is preferred. Experience: Required: A minimum of five years of continuous experience is required on an Advanced Life Support Ground Unit as an EMT-P. Experience must reflect general knowledge in pre-hospital medicine principles and practice skills, current trends and new developments. Preferred: Three years of 'In-Charge' experience on a 911 ambulance. Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Licensed or Certified as an EMT-Paramedic in the state of residence. Must obtain Tennessee licensure prior to starting clinical orientation with LIFE FORCE. Georgia licensure must be obtained prior to completion of orientation. Certifications: Certification in BLS and ACLS. Certification in one of the following: PALS, PEPP, or PBTLS. Certification in one of the following: ITLS, PHTLS, or TNATC required. Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) After LIFE FORCE orientation, must always meet the state of Tennessee's Air Ambulance rules requirements as a Flight Paramedic. Flight Paramedic Certified (FP-C). New employees must obtain certification within one year of date employment. Current driver licenses in the state of residence without restrictions or reasons to limit insurability. Due to weight limitations allowed onboard the aircraft, the maximum body weight is 250 lbs including gear for an EC-135 or Bell 407 aircraft base. Preferred: Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic (NREMT-P) Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, ITLS, PHTLS, and PEPP, PBTLS or PALS is preferred upon hire Position Summary: Ability to perform both Basic and Advanced Life Support practices in the execution of patient care Possesses sound judgment and organizational ability Possesses and demonstrates above average written and oral communication skills Maintains proficiency as a FAA designated crewmember Maintains provider certifications in ACLS, BLS, ITLS or PHTLS Also must hold certification in one of the following: PALS, PEPP or PBTLS, (instructor certifications preferred).
