Paralleling Switchgear Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer, Paralleling Switchgear is responsible for the design and management for paralleling switchgear projects from the time an order is received until the project ships.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design paralleling switchgear in accordance to customer specification, internal specifications, and applicable industry standards.

  • Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals.

  • Ensure projects have proper controls, metering and monitoring. Controls include. Power meters automation equipment (PLC/HMI), protective relays, load sharing, synchronization, etc.

  • Provide sketches, mark-ups and direction to Electrical and Mechanical Designers to develop project drawings. Review and approve project drawings

  • Select components and create bill of materials.

  • Provide direction to PLC/HMI programmers

  • Write operating sequences and instruction manuals.

  • Assist with the selection and setting of protective relays. Knowledge of digital multifunction relays, genset protection and utility intertie requirements desired.

  • Receives general direction but exercises discretion as to personal work details. Plan and execute as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, quality, delivery). Assumes responsibility of all assigned work.

  • Work as a member of a project team, maintain project schedule, attend project meetings, and keep project manager informed of status, and complete required project metrics and design documentation. Understand all parts of larger project

  • Assist with factory testing and field start-ups as required.

  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Sales Departments.

  • Assist with the development and updating of ISO procedures and internal design guides.

  • Ensure projects are build to applicable UL and ANSI standards. Knowledge of UL 891, 1558 and ANSI C37 desired.

Skills/Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.

  • Power System experience desired.

  • Knowledge of PLC/HMI programming desired.

For more information about KOHLER Power Systems, please visit www.kohlerpower.com. The Engineer will focus on hardware design, simulation, and test of power electronic assemblies (1kW and above). The power electronic assemblies will be used in support of advanced product concepts and existing products in the domain of power generation and power conversion. Specific Responsibilities: * Develop power electronic circuit assemblies and subassemblies for power conversion, including schematic capture and board layout * Simulate power conversion circuits via Simulink and assist with validation of switching algorithms and component robustness * Solicit best practices from internal peers and external resources on power electronics design * Coordinate peer design reviews during design process and participate in peer design reviews for related product * Research and implement EMI simulation modeling tools * Leverage commercial board layout tools to facilitate prototype hardware manufacturing * Perform circuit level verification using common laboratory tools, e.g. high speed oscilloscopes * Perform simulation modeling work as necessary to support the NPD team Skills/Requirements * Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering with targeted graduate coursework in power converters a plus. * Experience in power converter design a plus. Candidates with substantial experience in power conversion will be considered for a senior level position. * Experience with Simulink. * Experience with circuit board layout tools, e.g. OrCAD, Cadence, KiCad. * In-depth knowledge of power conversion principles.
