Job Description

We are hiring a Paralegal on a permanent basis, remotely in the US or Canada. This will be a 30 hour working week, either 4 full days per week or reduced hours across a 5 day week.

As a Parelegal, you will:

  • Provide a variety of corporate and commercial legal services and counselling to company's departments and divisions.

  • Draft contracts, perform document and/or contract review, and negotiates agreements

  • Act as an advisor on legal issues involving the organization's government and regulatory compliance, and manage corporate housekeeping.

  • Support the review of legal data and advise organization on appropriate legal action to be taken.

  • On occassion, coordinate legal matters handled by outside counsel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in law or relevant field or paralegal certificate

  • Work involves some problem solving with assistance and guidance in understanding and applying company's policies and procedures

  • 2+ year related work experience

  • Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in the areas of corporate finance, real estate finance and/or corporate governance work. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic professional to provide support on legal and regulatory matters relating to public and private debt and equity investment transactions, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, third party initiatives and various company projects on a global basis. Job Responsibilities: * Understand concepts of investment transactions * Compile deal documents and other information and obtain signatures * Complete private equity fund subscription documents and coordinate the provision of supporting "know-your-client" documentation with outside counsel and administrative agents * Review commercial leases and complete lease abstracts and accompanying documents including SNDAs and TECs * Support company real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and various investment funds involving Manulife/John Hancock's mortgage and real estate portfolio * Create, review and revise documents required to support various investment subsidiaries including formation, dissolution, consents, and general governance matters * Assist in transaction management by tracking deadlines and outstanding matters.
