Overview

The Firm's Restructuring and Insolvency practice group has an opportunity for a Paralegal to join its team in Richmond, VA. This Paralegal will monitor filings in bankruptcy and other federal and state courts and manage heavy caseload in coordination with firm attorneys. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-starter with strong technology and problem solving skills and committed to learning about the litigation and transactional aspects of a fast-paced national corporate bankruptcy and complex commercial litigation practice, involving courts in Virginia, Delaware, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Assists attorneys with researching, preparing, and cite-checking pleadings, briefs, motions, and other legal filings (using LEXIS, Westlaw, and other research platforms as appropriate).

  • Collects, organizes and maintains documents and files related to legal matters, including documents received from the client, opposing parties or other sources.

  • Assists attorneys with discovery phase, including preparation of discovery requests, issuing subpoenas, and preparing for and attending depositions.

  • Manages calendars, docket and tickler systems, ECF filing of pleadings, and assists in meeting deadlines.

  • Drafts routine correspondence and memoranda for attorneys and more senior level paralegals as requested.

  • Coordinates mailings, copying projects and filings, including electronic databases, where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Four year degree required.

  • Paralegal Certification from an ABA accredited program preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, firm management and external parties.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, ECF/Pacer, and other legal support software as appropriate.
