BAE Systems, Inc.'s Platforms & Services sector is seeking a Paralegal / Research & Compliance to join our legal team. In this role, you will conduct legal research and resolve legal questions under the direction of an attorney; assist in preparation of research memoranda, agreements, correspondence, and other documents; maintain records and perform case management as requested; prepare subpoena responses and issues and manage legal holds; conduct due diligence on potential domestic or international teammates and marketing representatives; and perform a variety of additional support functions which may include maintaining files, overseeing retention agreements with outside counsel and processing related invoices, scheduling and supporting team meetings, and other duties as assigned.
As a Paralegal, primary duties and responsibilities include:
Litigation: 1) assists attorneys in managing litigation on behalf of lines of business, including the administration and management of discovery and subpoena responses; 2) drafts documents and memoranda in support of motions or other dispute resolution activity; and 3) contacts witnesses and arranges for appearances at attorney interviews, depositions or hearings and trials.
International Compliance: 1) assists the international compliance organization with conduct of diligence regarding potential teaming or other partners; 2) prepares memoranda and recommendations regarding results of research; 3) conducts in-person or telephonic interviews of potential partners; and 4) generally supports international compliance needs through coordination with internal customers and approvers.
Records Management: 1) maintains electronic and hard copy legal records; 2) coordinates records management in compliance with larger company processes and approvals; 3) assists in conducting internal audits for compliance with records management policies and procedures; and 4) helps develop policies and procedures for effective records management.
Agreements: 1) drafts and manages standard company agreements, including confidentiality agreements and outside counsel and consulting contracts; and 2) drafts provisions for inclusion in non-standard contracting documents.
Research: 1) performs research on variety of subjects, such as proposed regulations or matters bearing on international transactions, industrial security, COVID orders from local and national governments; 2) conveys results of research orally or through memoranda; and 3) incorporates results of research into correspondence or other documents.
General Support: 1) manages outside counsel agreements and invoicing process; 2) manages budgetary process for legal department and generates periodic reports regarding legal spend; and 3) facilitates team meetings, including telepresence and webcast communications and prepares related presentations.
