Internship Summary: We are actively hiring for a Paralegal Intern! We are looking for motivated individuals looking to begin a career in our Legal Division to support our team that is primarily responsible for defending CSAA IG's policy holders in personal injury civil litigation. This position offers opportunities to receive hands-on, real-world experience in the insurance industry and in the civil litigation environment in the capacity of a paralegal.

Internship Details: This position will support our California law office in Sacramento, CA. The anticipated hourly rate for this role is $20.00. The ideal work hours would be 8:00am-5:00pm for the summer, and work hours would be part-time and flexible during business hours after the summer.

Essential responsibilities

• Support multiple litigation attorneys with various tasks related to discovery, motions, trials, and research

• Create summaries of incoming discovery responses in a timely manner

• Assist with trial prep: jury instructions, motions in limine, oppositions to motions in limine, exhibits, statement of case, trial binders, verdict forms, etc.

• Trials are inherently unpredictable

• Be on standby for any unanticipated/last minute needs of the trial attorney

• Legal research - assist attorneys in researching statutes and case law using simple online searches (Google), Lexis Nexis

• Shepardize, and In-office secondary sources

• Ideal hours during the week (8:00 AM - 5:00PM) Flexible during business hours 20 hours a week

Ideal Qualifications

• Current student actively enrolled in a Paralegal certification program, within the state of California, or current college/university student with interest in pursuing a legal career

• Interest in learning more about the insurance industry and the practice of civil litigation. Has fundamental knowledge of the law which includes understanding legal concepts, terminology, principles, and legal procedures.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and legal software applications

• Ability to handle and respond to sensitive and confidential information

• Strong analytical, verbal communication, and organizational skills

• Self-motivated and results-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, including demonstrating respect for others from a variety of backgrounds

• Has the ability to influence and effectively handle multiple projects.
