About Murphy Company
Since 1907, Murphy Company has been a leading mechanical contractor in St. Louis and Denver markets that provides its professionals the environment, opportunities, technology, and tools to experience a rewarding career.
Being a company that prides itself on its core values of employee well-being, enduring relationships, integrity and professionalism, we know it starts with our employees. We Are Looking For Someone Like You
A self-starter with 2-5 years of experience reviewing and negotiating terms and conditions of contracts or performing other similar, relevant legal work to fill a new position in the Legal Department that will review the terms and conditions of contracts, identify concerns, work with General Counsel to negotiate agreeable terms, provide litigation support to General Counsel, and manage the multi-jurisdictional contractor licensing process. Requirements include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or a certificate in paralegal studies from an ABA or AAfPE approved program, including AACP, CLA/CP, PACE, PCCE, RP or PP certification; the ability to clearly speak, write, and understand written and spoken English, possess exceptional reading comprehension and proof-reading skills and be skilled in office computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. The ideal candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, have a passion for accuracy and thoroughness, and be able to independently manage detail-oriented and time-sensitive projects.
Your Day-to-Day at Murphy Company
Contract review. Approximately 1800 contracts per year.
Some repeat customers, some with previously negotiated terms. Some review with subcontractors and vendors who propose alternative terms.
Legal support. Discovery production and review for privilege.
Documents for mechanic's lien filings, or lawsuits filed. Subcontractor joint check agreements.
Contractor licensing. Manage renewals for existing portfolio of contractor licenses.
Manage continuing education requirements for qualifiers. For new jurisdictions, identify state, county, and municipal contractor and business licensing requirements. Inconsistent availability of online information, so part of the challenge is in identifying requirements particularly at the county and municipal level.
