The Paralegal II Journeyman Division of Enforcement shall provide legal research and litigation support to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Division of Enforcement. The SEC's Division of Enforcement utilizes a variety of data that contain current, historical, and future information about sensitive public company data, mutual fund data, and trade/quote data summary is an overview of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

  • Summarize depositions and other transcripts.

  • Compare and reconcile financial statements and related information of public companies.

  • Conduct comparative analysis and other trend analysis.

  • Review routing documents and verify the accuracy of data.

  • Maintain case files; perform simple or compile legal research; index, track, and control document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery).

  • Index, track, and control exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.

  • May synopsize transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.

  • Review case-related materials and, for example, identify potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.

  • Write preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.

  • Prepare exhibit cross-references.

  • Review documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.

  • Record keeping and scheduling of rulemaking process using SharePoint system.

  • Compile documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.

  • Prepare spreadsheets, charts, and other summaries of financial and other data under the direction of attorneys and accountants.

  • Travel may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related labor category field such as Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or Criminal Justice from an accredited college, university, school, or educational institution that has been accredited by accrediting bodies or organizations recognized by the US Department of Education.

  • Minimum (4) years of Paralegal experience with a specialty in litigation (trial and courtroom).

  • Paralegal Certificate (Certificate not required if degree is in Paralegal Studies or Legal Studies only.)

  • Ability to provide favorable credit history

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint as well as legal software such as Lexis Nexis and/or Westlaw.

  • Possess and use excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, and procedures.

  • Experience interviewing witnesses and supporting attorneys during trial, including courtroom locations.

  • Experience drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as motions, briefs, subpoenas, legal memoranda, and correspondence for attorneys.

  • Ability to prepare and organize exhibits for use during depositions and trial.

  • Experience conducting various types of research related to laws, legal articles, and other information relevant to a case using Lexis Nexis or Westlaw.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing work product.

  • Keen sense of accountability and taking ownership over projects.

  • Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, flexibility in shifting focus.

  • Ability to work effectively in an extremely pressured and deadline-driven environment.

  • Possess a professional demeanor and can collaborate well with all team members and staff.
